Warm-Up Discussion: What Does Respect Mean?

Teacher: "Good morning, everyone! Today we're going to talk about a super important word: respect. Has anyone heard this word before? What do you think it means? Turn and talk to a partner for 30 seconds about what comes to mind when you hear the word 'respect.'"

(Allow students to discuss in pairs for 30 seconds.)

Teacher: "Alright, let's bring it back together. Who would like to share what they discussed? What are some of your ideas about what respect means?"

(Call on 2-3 students to share their initial thoughts. Write key words or phrases on the board as students share.)

Teacher: "Those are some great ideas! We hear words like 'kindness,' 'listening,' 'being nice.' You're all on the right track. Today, we're going to explore respect a little deeper and think about what it looks like and sounds like right here in our classroom. We'll be using our Respect Slides to guide us. Let's get started!"
