Lesson Plan

Resilience Monitoring Protocol

Students will complete a resilience quick check and submit evidence from their challenge plan and reflection to monitor their progress and identify areas for adjustment.

Monitoring resilience helps students understand their emotional growth, identify effective coping strategies, and make proactive changes to improve their well-being when facing challenges. This lesson provides a structured way to assess and plan for continued development.

Audience

Prep

Teacher Preparation

15 minutes

  • Review the Resilience Monitoring Protocol lesson plan and all associated materials: Unit 1 Check Slides, Resilience Quick Check (6 items), Challenge Reflection Entry, and Exit Ticket Adjustment.
    - Ensure access to a projector or interactive whiteboard for the slides.
    - Make copies or prepare digital assignments for the Resilience Quick Check (6 items), Challenge Reflection Entry, and Exit Ticket Adjustment.
    - Consider how to provide individualized feedback on student reflections, either during class or as an assignment follow-up.

Step 1

Do Now: Challenge Progress Rating

5 minutes

  • Display Slide 1: Resilience Progress Check.
    - Instruct students to silently reflect on their current 'Challenge Plan' and rate their progress on a scale of 1-5 (1 = not started, 5 = mastered).
    - Ask students to briefly jot down one feeling or thought about their rating. This can be done in a notebook or on a scrap piece of paper. (Teacher Note: This is a quick mental check-in, no formal submission at this point.)

Step 2

Complete Quick Check

10 minutes

  • Transition to Slide 2: Quick Check Time!.
    - Distribute or assign the Resilience Quick Check (6 items).
    - Explain that this is a brief assessment to gauge their understanding of key resilience concepts (monitoring, evidence, reflection, feedback).
    - Instruct students to complete the quick check independently.
    - Circulate to provide support and clarify questions as needed.

Step 3

Submit Reflection Evidence & Feedback

10 minutes

  • Display Slide 3: Reflect and Submit.
    - Explain that students will now submit evidence of their reflection from their ongoing challenge plan.
    - Distribute or assign the Challenge Reflection Entry.
    - Guide students to articulate their reflections, using specific examples or observations from their challenge experiences.
    - Collect submissions. Explain that feedback will be provided, either directly after submission or in a subsequent class.

Step 4

Set One Adjustment

5 minutes

  • Transition to Slide 4: Your Next Move.
    - Distribute or assign the Exit Ticket Adjustment.
    - Instruct students to use their reflection and the quick check as guides to identify one small, actionable adjustment they can make to their 'Challenge Plan' or resilience strategies.
    - Emphasize that even small adjustments can lead to significant growth.
    - Collect the Exit Ticket Adjustment as students leave.

Resilience Progress Check: Where Are You Now?

Today, we'll reflect on our resilience journey and identify our next steps.

Take a moment to think: How would you rate your progress on your Challenge Plan (1-5)?

(1 = Not started, 5 = Mastered)

Welcome students and introduce the goal for today's session: a progress check on their resilience journey. Explain that this is a chance to see how they're doing and what adjustments they might consider.

Quick Check Time!

Let's see what you know about resilience.

Complete the Resilience Quick Check (6 items).

Focus on your own understanding.

Explain that this quick check will help them gauge their understanding of key resilience concepts. Emphasize that it's a tool for learning, not just grading. Distribute or direct students to the Resilience Quick Check.

Reflect and Submit Your Evidence

Think about your challenge plan:

What have you learned? What evidence do you have?

Complete and submit your Challenge Reflection Entry.

Feedback is coming!

Explain that reflection is crucial for growth. Guide them to use the Challenge Reflection Entry to provide specific examples of their journey. Explain that they will receive feedback on these reflections.

Your Next Move: One Adjustment

Based on your reflection and quick check:

What is ONE small adjustment you can make to your Challenge Plan or resilience strategy?

Complete your Exit Ticket Adjustment.

Reiterate that resilience is about continuous improvement. Encourage them to think realistically about one small, impactful adjustment they can make. This helps them apply what they've learned directly. Collect the Exit Ticket Adjustment.
