Reflection Routine Guide

Guide a 7th grader through a consistent 10-minute daily wrap-up routine that checks in on feelings, reflects on successes and challenges, and creates an actionable plan for the next day.

Structured daily reflection fosters self-awareness, promotes goal-setting, and strengthens self-management skills by helping students track progress and plan proactively.

Step 1

Welcome & Daily Check-In

2 minutes

  • Greet the student warmly and introduce the purpose of today’s 10-minute wrap-up
  • Invite the student to open the Daily Check-In Slides
  • Ask them to select an emoji or color that represents their current mood and note any immediate wins or concerns

Step 2

Evening Reflection

4 minutes

  • Hand the student the Evening Reflection Prompts
  • Prompt them to write briefly about:
    • What went well today?
    • What challenges did you face?
    • How did you manage your time and emotions?
  • Encourage honest, concise responses and offer support as needed

Step 3

Next-Day Action Planning

3 minutes

  • Provide the Next-Day Action Plan sheet
  • Guide the student to set one or two specific, realistic goals for tomorrow
  • Ask them to identify the steps and resources needed to achieve each goal
  • Confirm the plan is clear and actionable

Step 4

Close & Positive Reinforcement

1 minute

  • Celebrate the student’s reflection and planning efforts with specific praise
  • Remind them to reference their action plan first thing tomorrow
  • Encourage consistency and offer to adjust the routine based on their feedback
