Reflect on peer relationships

This lesson encourages 7th graders to reflect on their relationships with peers and how these relationships have evolved over time. Through a combination of experiential learning and collaborative discussion, students will engage in activities that promote self-awareness and empathy. This lesson is important as it helps students develop social-emotional skills, fostering a supportive and understanding classroom environment.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

Begin with a brief introduction about the importance of relationships and how they change over time.
Explain the objective of the lesson: to reflect on their own peer relationships.

Step 2

Reflective Activity

10 mins

Distribute the Reflection Worksheet to each student.
Ask students to think about a peer relationship that has changed over time and write down their thoughts.
Encourage them to consider what factors contributed to the change.
Introduce a journaling exercise where students can write more personally about their feelings and insights regarding these changes.

Step 3

Game-Based Learning and Role-Playing

Organize students into small groups.
Provide each group with post-it notes and pens.
Instruct them to write down different scenarios of peer interactions (both positive and negative) on the post-it notes.
Have each group select a scenario to role-play, acting out the interaction and discussing how they would handle each situation.
Encourage students to reflect on the emotions and perspectives of each character in the scenario.

Collaborative Discussion

Use the Discussion Questions to facilitate a class discussion.
Encourage students to share their reflections and insights from the activities.
Highlight the importance of empathy and understanding in relationships.

Summarize the key points discussed during the lesson.
Encourage students to continue reflecting on their relationships outside of class.
