Reflect & Review Quiz Plan

Students will consolidate their understanding of social-emotional learning by watching a year-in-review video and completing a quiz that assesses their growth and reflections.

This lesson allows students to review and internalize key SEL skills from the year—self-awareness, self-management, social awareness—helping them recognize their progress and plan for future growth.

Prep

Prepare Materials

10 minutes

  • Review the Year in Review SEL Video
  • Review the Reflect & Review Quiz Questions
  • Print enough copies of the quiz for each student
  • Test projector, screen, and audio equipment

Step 1

Warm-Up

5 minutes

  • Ask students to pair up and share one SEL skill they’ve improved this year
  • Invite a few volunteers to report out to the whole class

Step 2

Watch Video

15 minutes

  • Play the Year in Review SEL Video
  • Instruct students to take notes on skills highlighted and any personal takeaways

Step 3

Complete Quiz

15 minutes

  • Distribute the Reflect & Review Quiz Questions
  • Students complete the quiz individually, reflecting on their SEL growth

Step 4

Reflection Discussion

5 minutes

  • Facilitate a brief class discussion on quiz responses
  • Encourage students to share insights on their growth areas

Step 5

Cool-Down

5 minutes

  • Have students write an exit ticket: one SEL goal for the upcoming term
  • Collect exit tickets as they leave

Let’s celebrate how far we’ve come this year!

Welcome students and introduce today’s session. Highlight that we’ll review our SEL journey and reflect on personal growth.

Learning Objectives

By the end of today’s session, you will:

• Review key SEL skills from the year
• Assess your personal growth through a quiz
• Reflect on areas for future SEL goals

Read the objectives aloud. Emphasize how today’s activities connect to self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness.

Warm-Up

Pair up and share:

“What’s one SEL skill you’ve improved this year?”

Volunteers will report out.

Explain the warm-up prompt. Pair students and set a 2-minute timer. Then invite volunteers to share.

Introduce the video. Remind students to take notes on highlighted skills and personal takeaways.

Complete the Reflect & Review Quiz

• Take out your quiz: Reflect & Review Quiz Questions
• Work individually
• Refer to your notes from the video
• You have 15 minutes

Distribute printed copies of the quiz. Remind students to reflect on their own experiences when answering.

Reflection Discussion

Discuss as a group:

• Which quiz question challenged you?
• What new insight did you gain about your SEL skills?
• How can you build on this moving forward?

Facilitate a 5-minute discussion. Prompt students to share surprising insights and areas for growth.

Exit Ticket

Write your exit ticket:

“One SEL goal I will work on next term is…”

Explain the exit ticket process. Collect responses as students leave.
