Reflect & Refine: My Problem-Solving Journey

Taking a moment to look back helps us grow forward!

Welcome students to the reflection activity. Explain that today's cool-down is about thinking back on how they solved a problem recently.

Why Reflect?

  • Learn from Experience: Understand what went well and what could be improved.
  • Strengthen Skills: Identify specific areas to work on for future challenges.
  • Become a Better Problem-Solver: Grow your ability to make responsible decisions.

Introduce the idea of self-assessment as a tool for personal growth. Encourage them to be honest with themselves.

Problem-Solving Prompt 1: The Challenge

Think about a recent time you faced a problem or had to make a decision.

  • What was the problem or decision you faced?
  • What was the situation?

Present the first reflection prompt. Give students a moment to think about a recent problem they faced. This could be big or small.

Problem-Solving Prompt 2: My Approach

How did you go about solving it or making that decision?

  • What steps did you take?
  • Who did you talk to or what resources did you use?

Move to the second prompt. Ask them to recall the steps they took, even if they weren't formal steps.

Problem-Solving Prompt 3: The Outcome

What was the result or outcome of your actions?

  • Were you happy with the result? Why or why not?
  • What impact did your decision have?

Focus on the outcome and the feelings associated with it. This helps them connect actions to results.

Problem-Solving Prompt 4: What I Learned

Now, let's think about what you learned.

  • What did you do well?
  • What could you have done differently?
  • What will you try next time you face a problem?

We will use the Decision-Making Self-Assessment (Cool Down) to help us reflect further.

This is the core of the cool-down – identifying personal growth areas. Link this directly to the Decision-Making Self-Assessment (Cool Down) they will be completing.

Keep Reflecting, Keep Growing!

Every problem solved, every decision made, is a chance to learn and improve. Your journey to becoming a responsible decision-maker is ongoing!

Conclude by reiterating the value of reflection for continuous improvement.
