Slide Deck
Express Yourself!
In this session, we will learn three phrases:
• I want…
• I feel…
• I notice…
Welcome Jaskiran! Today we will learn three simple phrases to help you share what you need, how you feel, and what you notice. Keep an eye on the examples and get ready to practice.
Phrase 1: I want…
Use this to say what you need or wish for.
Example:
“I want a glass of water.”
Explain that ‘I want…’ helps us tell someone what we need or wish for. Show the written example and model saying it clearly.
Phrase 2: I feel…
Use this to share your emotions.
Example:
“I feel happy when I play with my dog.”
Discuss different emotions, ask Jaskiran to repeat with different feelings. Model slowly and clearly.
Phrase 3: I notice…
Use this to point out something you see or observe.
Example:
“I notice the sky is blue.”
Point around the room or outside to model observations. Then ask her to notice something herself.
Practice: Ordering a Snack
Scenario:
You are hungry.
Task:
Use “I want…” to order a snack.
Read the scenario aloud. Ask Jaskiran what snack she wants and guide her to say “I want…”. Provide a token for her attempt.
Practice: Sharing Emotions
Scenario:
You just finished a fun game.
Task:
Use “I feel…” to tell how you feel.
Describe finishing a fun game. Prompt her: “How do you feel?” Remind her to start with “I feel…”. Reward correct usage.
Practice: Making Observations
Scenario:
Look around the room.
Task:
Use “I notice…” to say what you see.
Have Jaskiran look around and name three things using “I notice…”. Encourage full sentences.

Invite Jaskiran to choose any phrase and share something about her day or surroundings. Celebrate each attempt.

Reading
Reading Passage: Say What You Mean
Jayden sat at the table during recess with a big sheet of paper and a box of markers. He thought, “I want to draw the tallest tree I can imagine.” He picked up a green marker and started sketching tall branches and long leaves. As he looked at his drawing, he said, “I notice the green leaves look almost real on the page.”
When Jayden finished his tree, he held it up and smiled. He felt a warm glow in his chest and said, “I feel proud when I finish a project.” His teacher walked by and praised his work. Jayden thought, “I want to show my picture to my friend Mia next.”
Jayden found Mia on the playground and called, “Look at my tree!” Mia’s eyes lit up. Jayden noticed her bright smile and said, “I notice you look excited.” Mia laughed and said, “I feel happy when I see your art.” Jayden knew he had shared his thoughts and feelings clearly—and that made him feel proud all over again.
