Slide Deck

Ready, Set, Goals!

Kickoff to setting personal goals and building a growth mindset.

Welcome the class with excitement. Introduce today’s lesson: we’re learning how to set and work toward our own goals! Explain that goals help us grow and feel proud.

What Is a Goal?

A goal is something you plan and work toward.

• It gives you focus.
• It helps you learn and grow.
• It makes you feel proud when you reach it.

Explain that a goal is something you plan and work toward. Ask: “Why might goals help us?” Encourage a quick response.

Examples of Good Goals

• Read for 10 minutes every day
• Help a friend at recess
• Practice tying your shoes three times
• Say “please” and “thank you” five times

Show the examples one by one, inviting students to imagine themselves doing these actions.

Choose Your Goal

Think of one simple, achievable goal for this week:

• It could be about reading, kindness, or a new skill.
• Keep it small so you can do it every day.

Tell students to think quietly about a goal they want this week. Then ask them to whisper their idea to a neighbor.

Plan Your Steps

Break your goal into three small steps:

  1. What’s Step 1?
  2. What’s Step 2?
  3. What’s Step 3?

Model filling out each step with a sample goal, e.g., reading 10 minutes. Write steps on the board.

Track and Reflect

Each day, use your Daily Reflection Pages to record:

• Which step you did
• How it felt
• What you want to try tomorrow

Show a sample entry in the journal. Emphasize honest tracking—both successes and challenges.

Celebrate with Stickers!

Every time you complete a step, add a sticker to our Goal Celebration Chart!

Let’s celebrate every small win together.

Demonstrate placing a sticker on a chart. Cheer each time a student earns a sticker.

Let’s Share!

Who would like to share their goal and the steps they planned?

Let’s cheer for each other!

Invite volunteers to share their goal and steps. Reinforce positive feedback and excitement.
