The Mystery of the Missing Toy

Lily loved her teddy bear, Barnaby, more than anything. Barnaby had soft brown fur and a red bow tie. Every night, Barnaby sat on Lily's pillow, waiting for bedtime.

One sunny Tuesday morning, Lily woke up and Barnaby was gone! She looked under her bed. She looked in her toy box. No Barnaby. Lily's heart felt a little wobbly.

"Barnaby!" she called, but only silence answered.

She went to the kitchen. Her mom was making pancakes. "Mom, have you seen Barnaby?" Lily asked.

Mom shook her head. "No, sweetie. Maybe he went on an adventure."

Lily giggled a little. Barnaby on an adventure? She decided to be a detective, just like in her favorite books. She looked for clues. First, she saw a trail of small, brown fuzz leading from her bedroom to the living room. Aha! thought Lily.

The trail stopped by the big, comfy armchair. Lily peeked behind it. And there he was! Barnaby was sitting with Mr. Wiggles, the dachshund. Mr. Wiggles had pulled Barnaby off the bed for a morning playdate!

Lily scooped up Barnaby and gave him a big hug. "Silly Barnaby," she whispered. "Next time, take me with you on your adventures!" Mr. Wiggles wagged his tail, happy to have helped solve the mystery.
