Pumpkin Emotions

Recognize and articulate emotions

In this lesson, students will engage in a hands-on activity by decorating pumpkins with faces that represent different emotions. Step 1

Introduction to Emotions

5 minutes

  • Begin by discussing different emotions with the students (happy, sad, angry, surprised, etc.).
  • Ask students to share times when they felt these emotions.
  • Explain that today they will be decorating pumpkins to show these emotions.

Step 2

Decorating Pumpkin Faces

15 minutes

  • Provide each student with a small pumpkin or a paper cutout of a pumpkin.
  • Distribute markers or crayons and emotion face templates.
  • Instruct students to choose an emotion and decorate their pumpkin to represent that emotion.
  • Encourage creativity and offer help as needed.

Step 3

Discussion and Reflection

5 minutes

  • Gather students in a circle to share their decorated pumpkins.
  • Ask each student to describe the emotion their pumpkin represents and why they chose it.
  • Facilitate a brief discussion on how recognizing emotions can help us understand ourselves and others better.
