Slide Deck

Welcome to the Time Machine!

Ever wish you had more time?
Feeling overwhelmed by tasks?
Today, we're becoming Proactive Planners!

Greet students warmly. Ask a quick, engaging question to get them thinking about time. Transition into the lesson's purpose.

Time Traveler's Dilemma

It's not about having more hours...
It's about making every hour count!

Prompt students to consider how time feels. Emphasize that planning isn't about finding more time, but making the most of the time you have.

The Juggling Act

School, friends, family, hobbies, chores...
It's a lot to keep track of!
What's your biggest challenge?

Ask students to share common challenges they face with managing their time and tasks. Acknowledge their experiences.

Why Planning Matters

Reduce stress and anxiety
Improve academic performance
Achieve your goals
Have more free time for what you love!

Explain the benefits of planning: less stress, better grades, more free time, achieving goals. Connect it to their real lives.

Prioritization Power-Ups

Not all tasks are created equal!
Learn to identify what truly matters.
Think: Urgent vs. Important

Introduce the idea of 'powering up' their planning. Explain that prioritization is the first step. Briefly explain methods like urgent/important.

Urgent vs. Important

Quadrant 1: Urgent & Important (CRISIS!)
Quadrant 2: Important, Not Urgent (PLAN AHEAD!)
Quadrant 3: Urgent, Not Important (DELEGATE/DO QUICKLY)
Quadrant 4: Not Urgent, Not Important (ELIMINATE)

Go over the Urgent vs. Important matrix (or similar method) with examples. Have students think of a few tasks for each quadrant. Introduce the Worksheet: Prioritizing Your Power-Ups.

Crafting Your Game Plan

A schedule is your roadmap to success!
Make it realistic, flexible, and personal.
It's YOUR game, YOUR rules!

Transition to scheduling. Explain that a schedule is a roadmap for their week. Emphasize it should be realistic.

My Ideal Week

What does your week REALLY look like?
Block out fixed commitments first.
Don't forget breaks and fun!

Guide students to think about their typical week. Encourage them to block out fixed commitments first, then study, then free time. Introduce the Activity: My Weekly Game Plan.

Your Proactive Future!

You've got the tools!
Prioritize your tasks.
Craft your schedule.
Take control of your time and crush your goals!

Summarize the key strategies: prioritize and schedule. Encourage them to try these out. Ask for one thing they will try this week. End with an encouraging thought.

My Weekly Game Plan: Crafting Your Schedule

Name: _________________________ Date: _______________

Instructions:

It's time to create your own personalized weekly schedule! Use the blank schedule below or a separate piece of paper. Follow these steps to build your ideal (and realistic!) week.

Step 1: Fixed Commitments (Non-Negotiables)

Start by blocking out all your fixed commitments that happen at specific times each week. This includes:

  • School hours
  • Work shifts
  • Regular appointments (doctor, dentist, etc.)
  • Sports practices, club meetings, or other scheduled extracurriculars
  • Family commitments (e.g., dinner at a specific time)

Step 2: Essential Daily Activities

Next, block out time for essential daily activities that aren't usually scheduled but are crucial for your well-being and productivity:

  • Sleep (aim for 7-9 hours!)
  • Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  • Commute time (travel to/from school, work, activities)

Step 3: Academic & Productive Time (Integrate Prioritized Tasks)

Now, look at your Worksheet: Prioritizing Your Power-Ups and your Quadrant 2 tasks (Important, Not Urgent). Block out specific times for:

  • Homework and studying (break it into manageable chunks)
  • Project work (dedicated blocks of time)
  • Planning and organizing for the next day/week

Step 4: Self-Care & Free Time (Crucial for Balance!)

Don't forget to schedule time for yourself! This is just as important as your other commitments.

  • Relaxation and downtime
  • Hobbies and interests
  • Exercise
  • Socializing with friends
