Potion Making Art

Create and describe magical potions

In this lesson, students will create 'magical potions' using watercolors and other art supplies. They will then write a description of their potion and its magical effects. This lesson encourages creativity, fine motor skills, and descriptive writing.

Watercolor paints, Paintbrushes, Water cups, Paper, Crayons/Markers, Potion Description Worksheet, and Discussion Guide

Step 1

Introduction

10 mins

Welcome the students and explain that today they will be making magical potions.
Show examples of watercolor paintings and discuss how colors can mix to create new ones.
Explain that they will also write a description of their potion and its magical effects.

Step 2

Potion Making

30 mins

Distribute watercolor paints, paintbrushes, water cups, and paper to each student.
Instruct students to create their own magical potions by mixing colors and painting them on the paper.
Encourage them to be creative and think about what their potion might do.

Step 3

Potion Description Writing

15 mins

Hand out the Potion Description Worksheet.
Ask students to write a description of their potion, including its name, ingredients, and magical effects.
Provide assistance with spelling and ideas as needed.

Step 4

Closure

5 mins

Have students share their potions and descriptions with the class.
Discuss the different types of potions and their effects.
Collect the worksheets and display the paintings if possible.
