10 minutes

Step 1

Session 1: Goal Setting & Tracker Introduction

20 minutes

  • Introduce the Positive Pulse intervention and review class norms
  • Distribute Pulse Tracker Sheet and model how to record a ‘pulse’ for positive behaviors each period

Positive Pulse Intervention

• A Tier 2 small-group support for 6th graders
• 4 sessions × 20 minutes each
• Goal setting, daily tracking, games, role-plays, and celebration
• Let’s learn to follow class norms and recognize our progress!

Welcome everyone. Today we kick off our Positive Pulse intervention—a four-session program designed to help you set and reach personal behavior goals, track your progress, and celebrate successes. Use this time to build positive habits and support each other.

Program Overview

Session 1: Goal Setting & Tracker Introduction
Session 2: Tracker Check-In & Behavior Bingo
Session 3: Reflection & Role-Play
Session 4: Final Celebration & Next Steps

Walk students through all four sessions at a high level. Emphasize that we’ll start with goal setting, then check in with tracking and a game, practice with role-plays, and finish with a celebration.

Session 1: Goal Setting & Tracker Demo

  1. Review class norms and Positive Pulse purpose
  2. Distribute Pulse Tracker Sheet
  3. Model a tracker entry (“pulse”) after on-task behavior
  4. Students set 2–3 specific, measurable behavior goals
  5. Pair-share goals and strategies

Session 1: Introduce the Pulse Tracker Sheet and model how to record a pulse. Demonstrate setting SMART behavior goals. Encourage students to write down 2–3 goals and discuss in pairs.

Session 2: Tracker Check-In & Behavior Bingo

  1. Students share tracker entries: successes & challenges
  2. Peer feedback: What strategies helped?
  3. Explain Behavior Bingo:
    • Observe classmates for positive behaviors
    • Mark behaviors on your bingo card
  4. First bingo gets recognition—record it on your tracker

Session 2: Check in on tracker progress. Facilitate peer feedback on what’s working. Introduce the Behavior Bingo game, explain the rules, and hand out cards.

Session 3: Reflection & Role-Play

  1. Review tracker progress and highlight wins
  2. Introduce scenario prompts (e.g., “How to ask a question respectfully?”)
  3. In small groups, role-play scenarios and give feedback
  4. Update Pulse Tracker Sheet with reflections and next steps

Session 3: Use trackers to reflect on progress. Guide students through role-play scenarios modeling class norms. Encourage peer feedback and updating the tracker with reflections.

Session 4: Final Celebration & Next Steps

  1. Final tracker review: Reflect on goal attainment
  2. Discuss behaviors from Behavior Bingo Solutions
  3. Group brainstorm: How to keep up the momentum?
  4. Celebrate progress: distribute certificates/notes
  5. Establish ongoing pulse-tracking routine

Session 4: Bring it all together. Review every positive behavior from the game using the answer key. Facilitate discussion on sustaining gains, then celebrate with certificates or positive notes.

Continuing the Positive Pulse

• Keep using your Pulse Tracker daily
• Encourage classmates with “pulses” for positive actions
• Share successes in class or with your teacher
• Let’s keep the positive momentum going!

Remind students that Positive Pulse isn’t over—they can continue using their trackers, support peers, and recognize positive behaviors daily. Invite any questions or comments.

Game

Behavior Bingo

Description:
A fun, interactive bingo game that reinforces positive classroom behaviors aligned with our class norms. Students observe peers and mark the behaviors they see on their bingo cards. The first student to complete a row, column, or diagonal calls “Bingo!” and earns recognition.

Materials:

  • One unique bingo card per student from the set below (Behavior Bingo Solutions will help you check completed patterns)
  • Markers or pencils

Instructions

  1. Distribute one bingo card to each student.
  2. Explain that each square lists a positive behavior we want to see in class.
  3. As you teach, students watch for classmates demonstrating these behaviors and mark the corresponding square. (They cannot mark their own behavior; they must observe peers.)
  4. When a student completes five squares in a row—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—they call out “Bingo!”
  5. Verify the student’s card against the key in Behavior Bingo Solutions.
  6. Award the winner a small recognition, and remind everyone to keep looking for positive behaviors!
