Slide Deck

Welcome to Behavior Boost

• One-on-one session with you
• Learn to understand and change behaviors
• Four steps: Identify triggers, Set a goal, Choose reinforcers, Reflect & plan

Welcome the student warmly. Briefly explain that this 30-minute session will help them understand and change a behavior by identifying triggers, setting a clear goal, choosing rewards, and reflecting on next steps.

Session Objectives

  1. Identify your personal behavior triggers
  2. Set one specific behavior goal
  3. Choose positive reinforcers you like
  4. Reflect and plan how to keep going

Review the four objectives so the student knows what to expect. Encourage questions to ensure they feel comfortable.

What Are Behavior Triggers?

• Triggers are situations, feelings, or events that make certain behaviors more likely
• Examples: feeling bored in class, getting teased by classmates, hearing a loud noise
• We’ll use the Behavior Trigger Identification Chart next

Define “triggers” and explain how they lead to unwanted behaviors. Point to real-life examples to make it concrete.

Identify Your Triggers

  1. Think of a recent challenging moment
  2. Use the Behavior Trigger Identification Chart
  3. Write down:
    • The situation or event
    • What you thought and felt
    • What you did

Guide the student through recalling a recent incident. Fill out the chart together—listing the trigger, thoughts, feelings, and what happened.

Set Your Behavior Goal

• Pick one behavior to improve (e.g., stay seated when the teacher is talking)
• Make it Specific and Achievable
• Use the Individual Goal Setting Worksheet
• Break your goal into 2–3 small steps

Introduce the SMART concept (focus on Specific & Achievable). Help the student choose one behavior to change and break it into small steps.

Choose Positive Reinforcers

• Rewards make practicing new behaviors more fun
• Browse the Positive Reinforcement Card Set
• Choose 2–3 reinforcers you like (stickers, extra recess, praise, etc.)
• Record them on your goal worksheet

Show the card set and explain how rewards reinforce good habits. Let the student pick 2–3 items they find motivating.

Reflect & Plan Next Steps

• Complete the Session Reflection Sheet

  • What did you learn?
  • How will you use your goal plan?
    • Agree on when we’ll check your progress next
    • Keep your chart and goal sheet where you can see them

Hand out the reflection sheet and ask the student to answer prompts. Summarize their plan, confirm a follow-up check-in, and encourage displaying materials.
