Step 1

Introduction

3 minutes

Step 2

Activity: Conversation Ball Toss

12 minutes

  • Use the printable conversation starter cards.
  • Stand in a circle with the student and any other participants.
  • Explain the rules: Toss the ball to someone, and when they catch it, they pick a card and start a conversation based on the prompt.
  • Encourage the student to think of follow-up questions or comments to keep the conversation going.
  • Rotate turns to ensure everyone gets a chance to initiate a conversation.

Step 3

Closure

5 minutes

  • Gather the group and discuss what they learned about starting conversations.
  • Ask the student how they felt during the activity and if they found it easier to talk to others.
  • Encourage them to use these skills in their daily interactions.
