Lesson Plan

Physical Fitness and Fun: Move to the Beat!

Encourage movement and exercise

This lesson will involve a combination of warm-up activities, engaging games, and a cool-down period to promote physical fitness among young children aged 7-8. The games are designed to be fun and educational, encouraging teamwork, coordination, and the development of healthy exercise habits.

Audience

Believers (ages 7-8)

Time

45 mins

Approach

Encourage movement and exercise

Materials

Music player and speakers, Cones for marking boundaries, Water bottles, Small exercise mats, Printable cards with exercise instructions, and Discussion questions

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

Gather the children in a circle. Briefly explain that today's session is all about moving, playing, and having fun while exercising. Emphasize the importance of physical activity for staying healthy.

Step 2

Warm-Up: Simon Says

10 mins

Play a game of 'Simon Says' with a focus on different exercises such as jumping jacks, running in place, touching toes, etc. This will help to get the children moving and warmed up.

Step 3

Main Activity: Dance Freeze

20 mins

Play music and have the children dance freely. When the music stops, they must freeze in place. Mix in a variety of movements (e.g., hop on one foot, spin around, crawl like a crab) for them to do when the music is playing. This will keep the energy high and ensure they are moving different parts of their bodies.

Step 4

Cool-Down: Stretching Circle

5 mins

Have the children sit in a circle on their exercise mats. Lead them through some simple stretching exercises to cool down their muscles (e.g., reach for the sky, touch your toes, butterfly stretch).

Step 5

Closing Discussion

5 mins

Gather the children in a circle again and ask them about their favorite part of the session. Discuss why they think it's important to stay active and how they can incorporate physical activities into their daily routines.
