Slide Deck

Our Classroom, Our Community!

Working Together for a Great Learning Space!

Welcome students to the lesson. Ensure the title is visible and engaging. You can ask students to briefly share what they think the lesson might be about based on the title.

What Makes a Great Classroom?

What does a great classroom look, sound, and feel like?

Ask students this question and encourage them to share their ideas. Record their responses on the board or chart paper. This helps activate prior knowledge and sets the stage for the discussion on behaviors. Emphasize that a 'great classroom' is a shared responsibility.

Our Classroom Expectations

What are the ways we show respect and help everyone learn?

Introduce the idea of 'expected behaviors' or 'classroom rules.' Explain that these are the things we all agree to do to make our classroom a safe, respectful, and fun place to learn. Emphasize that these are shared expectations that help everyone.

Listening Ears

We listen when others are speaking to learn and show respect.

Discuss what 'listening ears' means. Ask students to show what good listening looks like (eyes on speaker, quiet body). Explain why listening is important (we learn, we show respect). You can model good and bad listening briefly.

Quiet Voices

We use quiet voices so everyone can hear and think clearly.

Discuss what a 'quiet voice' means in different situations (e.g., small group vs. whole class). Talk about when it's okay to talk and when it's important to be quiet. Explain how a quiet voice helps others concentrate.

Walking Bodies

We use walking feet inside the classroom to stay safe and calm.

Explain what a 'walking body' looks like in the classroom (slow, controlled movements). Discuss why running or roughhousing is not safe in the classroom. Emphasize moving safely to prevent accidents and distractions.

Helping Hands

We use our hands to help friends and keep our classroom tidy.

Discuss what 'helping hands' involves (e.g., helping a friend, cleaning up, sharing materials). Talk about how helping hands build a strong community. You can give specific examples of helping hands in your classroom.

Kind Words

We use kind words to make everyone feel welcome and happy.

Introduce 'kind words.' Ask students for examples of kind words and unkind words. Discuss the impact of words on others' feelings. Emphasize speaking respectfully to everyone.

Our Best Classroom!

When we all use these positive behaviors, our classroom is a wonderful place to learn and make friends!

Summarize the key takeaways. Reiterate that when everyone practices these behaviors, the classroom becomes an amazing place to learn and grow. Encourage students to think about which behavior they can focus on today.
