Lesson Plan

Earth Lesson Plan

Students will learn about Earth’s land and water by singing a simple custom song from a printed lyrics poster, read a story, sort pictures, make a collage, and discuss caring for our planet.

Using an easy-to-follow lyrics poster lets children sing together without video, reinforcing land vs. water vocabulary and group participation while building environmental awareness and fine motor skills.

Our Amazing Earth

Exploring land, water, and ways we care for our planet

Welcome children and introduce the lesson. Explain that today we will learn about our world—its land and water—and how we can care for it. Show excitement and ask if anyone has heard of oceans or continents.

Sing along with our special Earth song!

Gather students on the carpet in a circle. Play the Earth Song video. Encourage children to sing, clap, and move. Point out and emphasize the words “land” and “water” when they appear in the song.

Story Time: Our Earth

Read along and spot land vs. water in Our Earth Storybook (#our-earth-storybook).

Show each page of the storybook slowly. After each page, ask: “What do you see here? Land or water?” Encourage children to point and name features.

Land and Water Sorting

Sort picture cards under land or water using your Land and Water Sorting Worksheet (#land-water-sorting-worksheet) and Sorting Trays (#sorting-trays).

Hand out worksheets and sorting trays. Model sorting one picture card. Let each child pick a card, name it, and place it under land or water. Circulate to prompt and praise responses.

Craft: Earth Collage

Use Blue and Brown Construction Paper (#construction-paper-blue-brown) to make an Earth collage. Tear or cut and glue to show continents and oceans.

Display blue and brown paper, glue, and scissors. Demonstrate tearing or cutting shapes for oceans and continents. Encourage children to name each piece as they glue it onto their collage.

Wrap-Up & Clean-Up

Discuss how we can help our Earth stay clean. Then return materials and tidy up!

Ask children: “How can we help keep our Earth clean?” Highlight suggestions like picking up trash or saving water. Guide children to return materials and tidy their workspace.

Land and water all around.

Our Earth Storybook

Page 1: Hello, Earth!

Look at our planet Earth! It is round like a ball. This is our home in space.

Page 2: Land

Land is the brown and green places. Trees, mountains, and animals live on land. Can you think of something you see on land?

Page 3: Water

Water is the blue places. Oceans, lakes, and rivers are full of water. Fish and boats live on water.

Page 4: Land and Water Together

Earth is special because land and water share space. People, plants, and animals need both land and water to live.

Page 5: Caring for Earth

We can help Earth by picking up trash and saving water. Let’s keep land and water clean so all creatures stay healthy.
