Developing dependability and punctuality helps students succeed in school, build trust with teachers and peers, and establish good habits for life. These skills are fundamental for managing responsibilities and respecting others' time.

- Print or prepare to display the Dependability & Punctuality Skits for students.
- Arrange the classroom to allow for small group skit performances.

Introduction (Slide 1: On Time, On Task!)
"Good morning, second graders! Today, we're going to talk about something super important for our classroom and for being great friends: being on time and on task! Has anyone heard those phrases before? What do you think they might mean?"
"Great ideas! We're going to explore how being dependable and punctual helps us all have a better day at school."
What Do They Mean? (Slide 2: What Do They Mean?)
"Let's look at these two big words: Dependability and Punctuality. Can someone read what dependability means for us?"
"That's right! It means people can count on you. If you say you'll do something, you do it! Now, who can read about punctuality?"
"Excellent! Punctuality is all about being on time. Not just for school, but for everything we do during the day. Think about it: when you come to the carpet for reading, are you on time? When it's time for art, are you ready to go?"
Why Dependability Rocks! (Slide 3: Why Dependability Rocks!)
"So, why do you think it's important to be dependable? Look at our slide for some clues. Who wants to share their thoughts?"
"Those are fantastic reasons! When you're dependable, your friends and teachers know they can trust you. It helps our classroom run smoothly because we can count on each other to do our jobs, like being a line leader or cleaning up. It also means we can finish important jobs, like a cool group project!"

"Now, let's think about punctuality. Why is it powerful to be on time?"
"Exactly! If you're late for something, you might miss something exciting, like the start of a new story or a fun game. When everyone is on time, we can start our lessons right away, and that means more time for learning and fun! It also shows respect for everyone else in the room who was on time."

"How about punctuality? What are some ways we can be on time?"
"Wonderful suggestions! Watching the clock, cleaning up quickly when it's time for a new activity, getting ready early for transitions, and lining up fast are all super ways to be punctual. It's like a superhero skill for time!"
Skit Practice & Performances
"Now, for the fun part! We're going to practice being dependable and punctual. I'm going to divide you into small groups, and each group will get a short skit to act out. Your skit will show a situation where dependability or punctuality is important. You'll show what happens if someone isn't dependable or punctual, and then how they can fix it and be a superstar!"
"Remember to speak loudly and clearly, and really get into your characters! You'll have about 10 minutes to practice."

"Alright, let's see our amazing actors! Who would like to go first?"

It could be something small, like always cleaning up your desk before the bell, or always being on the carpet when it's time for reading. Think about it, and make that promise to yourself!"

Activity
Dependability & Punctuality Skits
Instructions: In your groups, choose one skit to act out. First, show what happens when the characters are not dependable or punctual. Then, show how they could be dependable and punctual to make things better!
Skit 1: The Lost Library Books (Dependability)
Characters:
- Maya: Loves reading, but sometimes forgets things.
- Mr. Lee: The teacher.
- Sam: Maya's friend, waiting for a book.
Scene: It's library day! Mr. Lee is collecting library books. Sam is hoping Maya will return a book so he can borrow it.
Problem: Maya promised Sam she would return her library book today so he could check it out. When Mr. Lee asks for books, Maya realizes she left hers at home. Sam is disappointed.
Solution: Show Maya remembering her book, bringing it in, and happily giving it to Mr. Lee, who then puts it back for Sam to check out. Or, show Maya telling Mr. Lee and Sam right away that she forgot it, and making a plan to bring it tomorrow.
Skit 2: The Art Project Puzzle (Punctuality)
Characters:
- Leo: A bit slow to clean up.
- Ms. Chen: The art teacher.
- Chloe: Leo's art partner, waiting to start.
Scene: Art class is about to start a new project. Ms. Chen has given everyone 2 minutes to get their supplies ready.
Problem: Ms. Chen says, "Time to start our new painting project!" Leo is still putting away his coloring pencils from the last activity. Chloe has all her paints ready but can't start without Leo, who has the main brush. They lose valuable art time.
Solution: Show Leo cleaning up quickly as soon as Ms. Chen gives the warning, and being ready with his painting supplies when the new project starts. Chloe and Leo can start painting right away!
Skit 3: Line Up Trouble (Punctuality & Dependability)
Characters:
- Noah: Easily distracted.
- Ms. Davis: The teacher.
- Classmates: Waiting to go to recess.
Scene: It's time for recess, and Ms. Davis asks everyone to line up.
Problem: Ms. Davis says, "Time for recess, everyone, please line up quietly!" Noah is still playing with a toy at his desk, even after Ms. Davis has said it. The rest of the class is lined up, but they have to wait for Noah. They miss precious minutes of play.
Solution: Show Noah hearing Ms. Davis, putting his toy away quickly, and joining the line right away so the whole class can get to recess on time.
