New Year, New Goals

Reflect and set personal goals

In this lesson, students will reflect on the past year and set personal goals for the upcoming one. Through journaling and group discussions, they'll learn the importance of self-awareness and envision their dreams. This lesson is important as it encourages students to think critically about their personal growth and aspirations, fostering a mindset of continuous improvement and self-awareness.

Step 1

Introduction

5 minutes

  • Welcome students and introduce the topic of New Year goal setting and reflection.
  • Explain the importance of reflecting on past experiences and setting goals for personal growth.
  • Briefly outline the activities for the session.

Step 2

Journaling Activity

15 minutes

  • Distribute the 'Goal Setting and Reflection Worksheet' to each student.
  • Instruct students to spend time reflecting on the past year, noting down achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Encourage them to think about what they want to achieve in the upcoming year and write down specific, measurable goals.

Step 3

Group Discussion

15 minutes

  • Divide students into small groups and provide each group with a 'Group Discussion Guide'.
  • Encourage students to share their reflections and goals with their group members.
  • Facilitate the discussion by asking guiding questions from the guide to help students think deeper about their goals and how they plan to achieve them.

Step 4

Closure

5 minutes

  • Bring the class back together and ask a few students to share their goals with the entire class.
  • Reinforce the importance of setting realistic and achievable goals.
  • Encourage students to revisit their goals regularly and adjust them as needed.
