Year in Bloom Plan

Students will reflect on their emotional and academic growth over the year, celebrate successes, and set intentions for summer to build self-awareness and readiness for 4th grade.

This lesson helps 3rd graders acknowledge achievements, process end-of-year feelings, foster a supportive classroom community, and smoothly transition to 4th grade.

Growth Reflection Worksheet, Bloom Bouquet Template, Summer Intentions Chart, Mood Meter cards (printed set), Chart paper, Markers, and Sticky notes

Prepare Materials

Step 1

Warm-Up and Grounding

3 minutes

  • Welcome students and explain today’s purpose: reflecting on growth and celebrating achievements
  • Lead a quick breathing exercise (inhale for 4, hold 2, exhale for 6)
  • Briefly introduce the Mood Meter and ask students to pick a color that matches how they feel right now

Step 2

Reflect on Growth

8 minutes

  • Distribute the Growth Reflection Worksheet
  • Invite students to complete prompts: 1) "My proudest moment this year was…" and 2) "A skill I improved is…"
  • Encourage them to note one feeling they experienced often this year

Step 3

Create Bloom Bouquet

7 minutes

  • Hand out the Bloom Bouquet Template
  • Ask students to draw three "petals," each illustrating an achievement or happy memory
  • On each petal, have them write a brief label (e.g., “Reading Club Winner,” “Made New Friend”)

Step 4

Share and Celebrate

6 minutes

  • Organize students into small groups of 3
  • In each group, students take turns sharing one reflection from their worksheet and one bloom petal
  • After sharing, they write a compliment or note of encouragement on a sticky note and post it on the class celebratory board

Set Summer Intentions

5 minutes

  • Give each student a Summer Intentions Chart
  • Prompt them to write one goal or fun activity they plan to do over summer (academic or personal)
  • Invite volunteers to share one intention aloud

Closure

1 minute

  • Summarize key takeaways: celebrating growth and looking forward to new goals
  • Encourage students to display their bouquets and intentions at home or on the classroom wall
  • Thank everyone for sharing and wish them a happy summer!

Grade 3 End-of-Year Reflection and Celebration
30-minute Counseling Lesson

Welcome students and set the tone for today’s wrap-up. Explain that we’ll reflect on our year, celebrate achievements, and plan for summer fun!

Warm-Up & Grounding

  1. Inhale for 4, hold for 2, exhale for 6 (repeat twice)
  2. Look at the Mood Meter and choose the color that shows how you feel right now

Lead students through a simple breathing exercise. Show Mood Meter cards so they can pick the color that matches how they feel.

Reflect on Your Growth

• My proudest moment this year was…
• A skill I improved is…
• A feeling I experienced often this year…

Distribute the Growth Reflection Worksheet. Encourage students to write honestly and thoughtfully.

Create Your Bloom Bouquet

Draw three petals, each showing an achievement or happy memory this year.
Label each petal (e.g., “Reading Club Winner,” “Made New Friend”).

Hand out the Bloom Bouquet Template. Circulate and praise creative ideas.

Share & Celebrate

  1. Take turns sharing one reflection and one bloom petal.
  2. Write a compliment or note of encouragement on a sticky note.
  3. Post sticky notes on our class celebratory board.

Group students in threes. Remind them to listen and encourage one another. Provide sticky notes for compliments.

Set Summer Intentions

Write one goal or fun activity you plan for summer (academic or personal).
Volunteer to share your intention with the class.

Give each student the Summer Intentions Chart. Prompt them to think of one fun or learning goal.

Looking Ahead

• Celebrate how far you’ve come!
• Share your bouquets and intentions at home or our wall.
• Have a fantastic summer and get ready for 4th grade!

Reinforce key messages: celebrate growth, look ahead with excitement. Thank students and wish them a happy summer.
