How Does It Work?

Script

My Behavior Wins: Teacher Script

Introduction & Hook (5 minutes)

"Hi [Student's Name]! I'm really excited to talk with you today about something super cool: celebrating your awesome choices! You know, sometimes we do so many great things, but we don't always stop to notice them. Have you ever felt really proud of something good you did? How did that feel?"

"That feeling of pride is really important! Today, we're going to start using something called a 'My Behavior Wins Tracker' to help you see all the amazing things you do."

Introducing the Behavior Tracker (10 minutes)

"Take a look at this My Behavior Wins Tracker Worksheet. It's a special sheet where you can keep track of all your 'wins' – those positive behaviors and good choices you make."

(Refer to the My Behavior Wins Slide Deck - Slide: 'How Does It Work?')

"Let's go through it together. First, there's the 'Date' column. This is where you'll write the date you made your awesome choice. Simple, right?"

"Next is 'My Win!' This is the fun part! Here you'll write down what great thing you did. It could be something big, or it could be something small. Like, 'I helped my friend pick up their dropped pencils,' or 'I remembered to clean up my desk.' What do you think about that?"

"Then, 'How I Felt.' After you make a good choice, how does it make you feel? Happy? Proud? Calm? It's important to notice those feelings!"

"And finally, 'Awesome Points.' For every win you record, you get to give yourself one awesome point! It's a way to keep score of all your positive efforts."

"What are some of the positive things you've been working on, or that you want to get better at? Maybe raising your hand more, or finishing your work on time? We can totally add those to our list of 'wins' to look for!"

Guided Practice (10 minutes)

"Okay, let's try filling out a couple of 'wins' together based on some things you've done recently. Can you think of something good you did either today or yesterday?"

(Guide the student in filling out the first few entries. Provide positive reinforcement and model how to articulate the 'win' and 'how I felt' sections. Use the My Behavior Wins Tracker Answer Key to help frame your responses and praise.)

"Wow, that's a fantastic win! You really showed [positive trait, e.g., responsibility/kindness] there. How did that make you feel when you [action]?"

(Repeat for a couple more examples.)

Independent Application & Wrap-up (5 minutes)

"You're doing great with this! Now, this My Behavior Wins Tracker Worksheet is yours to keep and use. Every time you have a 'win,' big or small, I want you to write it down and give yourself an awesome point."

"We'll check in [e.g., daily/weekly] to see how many 'wins' you've collected and celebrate your progress. Remember, every single good choice helps you grow and makes our classroom a better place. You've got this, and I can't wait to see all your amazing wins!"

2. My Win! (What good thing did I do?)

  • Expectation: The student describes the specific positive behavior or choice they made.
  • Teacher Guidance:
    • "Tell me about a time recently when you made a really good choice." (Prompt for specifics: Who was there? What exactly happened?)
    • "Instead of saying 'I was good,' can you tell me what you did that was good?"
    • "That's a fantastic example! How can we write that so it's clear what your 'win' was?"
    • Examples: "I raised my hand before speaking," "I shared my toy with [friend's name]," "I finished all my math problems," "I helped clean up the art supplies."

3. How I Felt

    • "Did it make you feel proud, happy, calm, helpful?"
    • "It's great to notice how good choices make us feel, isn't it?"
    • Focus: Connect positive actions with positive emotions to build intrinsic motivation.

4. Awesome Points!

  • Expectation: The student (or teacher, during review) places a checkmark, star, or number to indicate the 'win' has been recorded.
  • Teacher Guidance:
    • "Awesome! That's another point for you!"
    • "Look at all those points adding up! You're really collecting a lot of wins!"
    • Focus: Use this as a visual tally of success and a motivator.

Reflection Prompts (for review sessions)

  • "What was your favorite 'win' this week and why?"

    • Purpose: Encourages reflection on impactful moments and helps the student identify what they value.
    • Teacher Prompt: "Out of all your amazing wins, which one stands out the most to you? Why was that one special?"
  • "How does tracking your wins make you feel?"

    • Purpose: Reinforces the emotional connection to positive behavior and the benefits of self-monitoring.
    • Teacher Prompt: "Looking at all your wins, how does seeing them written down make you feel about yourself and your choices?"
