- Feel brave!
- Believe in ourselves!

Warm-up: How Do We Feel? (5 minutes)
"Good morning/afternoon, everyone! I'm so glad you're here today. Let's start by checking in with our feelings. How are we all feeling today? You can just give me a thumbs up for good, thumbs down for not so great, or a thumb sideways for 'I'm okay.'"
"That's great. Sometimes, at school, we can feel a little worried, stressed, or even anxious. These are normal feelings, and everyone experiences them sometimes. Can anyone share what it feels like in your body when you feel worried or stressed? Maybe your stomach feels a little fluttery, or your heart beats a bit faster?"
"Thank you for sharing. It's important to notice how our bodies feel."
Introduce Positive Power! (10 minutes)
"Today, we're going on an 'Affirmation Adventure' to learn a super cool trick to help us when those worries or stresses pop up!" (Display My Affirmation Adventure: Beating Worry! Slide Deck - Slide 1)
"Let's talk about what worry, stress, or anxiety might feel like, and where it comes from at school." (Display Slide 2) "Sometimes we worry about tests, or speaking in front of the class, or even just making new friends. It's okay to feel these things."
"But guess what? We have a secret superpower to help us! It's called Positive Affirmations!" (Display Slide 3) "Can everyone say 'Positive Affirmation' with me?"
"A positive affirmation is a kind, true statement we tell ourselves. It's like giving ourselves a little pep talk inside our heads. They help us think happy thoughts, feel brave, and believe in ourselves."
"Why do you think these 'kind, true statements' help us?" (Display Slide 4) "Our thoughts are super powerful! If we keep thinking, 'I can't do this,' how do you think we'll feel? Probably not great, right? But if we tell ourselves, 'I am strong and capable,' how might that change how we feel?"
"Exactly! Positive affirmations help us choose strong, helpful thoughts instead of worried ones."
"Let's try some examples together! Repeat these after me with confidence!" (Display Slide 5)
- "I am a great learner."
- "I can do hard things."
- "I am calm and focused."
- "I am a kind friend."
"Doesn't that feel good to say?"
Create Our Affirmations (10 minutes)
"Now it's your turn to create your own special power words!" (Display Slide 6) "I'm going to give you a worksheet called the Affirmation Creation Worksheet. On this sheet, you'll have space to write 3 or 4 positive affirmations."
"Think about times at school when you might feel worried or stressed. Maybe before a big test, or when you have to read aloud, or during playtime. What kind words do YOU need to hear inside your head to help you feel better in those moments?"
"For example, if you worry about a math test, you might write, 'I am smart, and I can try my best on this test.' If you worry about making friends, you might write, 'I am a friendly person, and I can ask someone to play.'"
"I'll walk around if you need any ideas or help. Take your time and make these affirmations special for you. You can use pencils or crayons to make them colorful!"
(Allow students to work, offering guidance and encouragement. Circulate the room to check in with each student.)
Share and Reflect (5 minutes)
"Wow, these look fantastic! You've all created some really powerful words for yourselves." (Display Slide 7) "You now have special words to help you whenever you need them!"
"Would anyone like to share one of their positive affirmations with the group? Remember, these are your secret superpowers!"
"Thank you for sharing! It takes courage to share, and your affirmations are wonderful. Remember to keep your Affirmation Creation Worksheet somewhere you can see it, and practice saying your affirmations to yourself, especially when you feel those tricky emotions like worry or stress."
"Let's end by taking one deep breath together. As you breathe out, quietly say your favorite affirmation to yourself. You are all amazing, strong, and capable 3rd graders! Great job today!"
