Streamlining Student Support: Your New MTSS Tracker

Welcome! Today we'll explore our new school-wide tool for academic and behavioral tracking, designed to enhance our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). This form will help us:

  • Identify student needs more effectively.
  • Track intervention progress.
  • Collaborate for student success.

Welcome teachers and staff. Briefly introduce the session and its purpose: to introduce a new, standardized MTSS tracking form.

Why a New MTSS Tracking Form?

Consistent data collection is vital for effective MTSS.

  • Comprehensive View: Get a holistic picture of student strengths and needs.
  • Informed Decisions: Use data to select and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Monitor Progress: Track student growth and intervention effectiveness.
  • Collaboration: Facilitate communication among staff.

Explain the 'Why' behind the form. Emphasize that consistent data is crucial for effective MTSS. Briefly touch on the MTSS framework (Tier 1, 2, 3).

Section 1: Student Information

Accurate foundational data:

  • Student Name & Grade: Basic identification.
  • Homeroom Teacher: Key point of contact.

Refer to your MTSS Tracker Form Guide for details.

Introduce the 'Student Information' section. Go through each field, explaining what information is needed and why. Stress accuracy.

Section 2: Academic Data - Part 1

Key academic performance indicators:

  • LEAP Scores: Most recent scores for ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies.
  • Previous Retention: Has the student been retained? If so, when and in which grade(s)?

Refer to your MTSS Tracker Form Guide for details.

Move to 'Academic Data'. Explain LEAP scores and how they provide baseline academic performance. Discuss previous retention as a significant historical factor.

Section 2: Academic Data - Part 2

Ongoing academic performance:

  • Current Year Grades: Current grades in core subjects.
  • Current Courses: List of all courses the student is currently taking.
  • IXL Assessment Data: Recent diagnostic or skill-specific assessment data.

Refer to your MTSS Tracker Form Guide for details.

Continue with academic data. Discuss current grades and courses as real-time performance indicators. Highlight IXL data for skill-specific insights.

Section 3: Academic Interventions

Targeted support across tiers:

  • Tier 1: Classroom-Wide Supports
    • Strategies for all students.
    • Examples: Differentiated instruction, flexible grouping, UDL.

Refer to your MTSS Tracker Form Guide for check-off options.

Introduce the 'Interventions & Supports' section, starting with Academic Interventions. Explain the concept of Tier 1 (universal classroom supports). Provide examples.

Academic Interventions (Cont.)

  • Tier 2: Group Supports
    • For students needing extra help in specific areas.
    • Examples: Small group tutoring, targeted skill groups.
  • Tier 3: Individual Supports
    • Intensive, personalized for significant needs.
    • Examples: One-on-one tutoring, IEP/504 plans.

Refer to your MTSS Tracker Form Guide for check-off options.

Discuss Tier 2 (small group) and Tier 3 (individual) academic interventions. Emphasize that these are more intensive and targeted.

Section 4: Behavior Interventions

Supporting positive behavior:

  • Identify and track behavioral challenges.
  • Select appropriate interventions from a range of strategies.
  • Examples: Daily behavior charts, social skills groups, positive reinforcement.

Refer to your MTSS Tracker Form Guide for check-off options.

Shift to 'Behavior Interventions'. Explain how behavior data is tracked and how interventions are selected to address specific behavioral needs.

Section 5: Progress Monitoring & Review

The MTSS process is ongoing:

  • Date of Data Review: When was the data last reviewed?
  • Next Review Date: Schedule for future review.
  • Notes/Observations: Document insights, adjustments, and outcomes.

Regular review ensures interventions are effective and adjusted as needed.

Conclude with 'Progress Monitoring & Review'. Stress the importance of ongoing review and data-driven adjustments to interventions. Encourage questions.
