Slide Deck
Mission: Follow the Clues
Welcome to our clue hunt mission!
Objective: Practice listening carefully and following each step.
Greet the student. Display this slide while saying: “Today, we’re on a mission to follow a series of clues. Our goal is to listen carefully and complete each step to become a clue master!”
Discussion: Your Experiences
Think of a time you followed multiple steps (e.g., cooking a recipe, playing a game).
• What were the steps?
• How did you make sure you didn’t miss any?
Ask the student to share an example. Prompt them to describe steps and how they kept track.
Strategies for Success
• Visualize each step in your mind
• Ask questions if something is unclear
• Go one step at a time
• Check off each step when complete
Review each strategy. Encourage the student to think about using these during the activity.
Clue Hunt Activity
- Shuffle the Clue Cards.
- Draw the top card.
- Listen to or read the direction and do it.
- Record your work on the Clue Response Sheet.
- Repeat for each clue.
Explain the flow of the activity. Remind the student to record their work and that you’ll offer praise and prompts.
Example Clue
“Draw a triangle, then color its left side blue.”
Read the example aloud. Model how you would visualize, draw, and color. Ask if any part is unclear.
Reflection
• What strategy helped you most?
• Which step was challenging?
• How can you use this skill in class?
Review the completed Clue Response Sheet. Ask the reflection questions and note responses.
Discussion
Follow the Clues Discussion
Purpose: Reflect on how you listened, processed, and executed each step during the clue hunt. Use this time to surface strategies, challenges, and ideas for applying these skills in other tasks.
Discussion Guidelines
• One person speaks at a time.
• Use full sentences.
• Listen actively and respectfully.
• It’s okay to pause and think before answering.

Wrap-Up
Summarize one key strategy you will remember and explain how you will use it in a future task.
Activity
Clue Cards Activity
Use these cards to guide your drawing and coloring missions. Shuffle the cards, draw one at a time, read or listen to the direction, and then complete it on your paper. After each card, record your result on the Clue Response Worksheet.
Clue Cards:
- Draw a square. Then draw two diagonal lines connecting opposite corners.
- Draw a circle. Then color the top half red.
- Draw a triangle. Then color its left side blue.
- Draw a rectangle. Then draw a vertical line down the center and color the right section green.
- Draw a star (five points). Then draw a small circle at each point.
- Draw two parallel horizontal lines. Then connect them on the left with a vertical line and color the shape yellow.
- Draw a hexagon. Then draw and color one of its sides purple.
- Draw a heart shape. Then draw an arrow through it.
- Draw a smiley face: circle, two eyes, and a mouth. Then color only the mouth orange.
- Draw a plus sign (+). Then draw a circle around it.
Remember to show your work and check off each step on your response worksheet!
Answer Key
Clue Cards Answer Key
Use this key to check student responses for each clue. Confirm that both parts of each direction are present and correctly executed.
Clue 1
Draw a square. Then draw two diagonal lines connecting opposite corners.
Correct Response:
• A neatly drawn square
• Two straight lines: one from the top-left corner to the bottom-right corner, and one from the top-right corner to the bottom-left corner (forming an “X” inside the square)
Step-by-Step Check:
- Square drawn with four equal sides and right angles
- First diagonal from one corner to the opposite
- Second diagonal crossing the first at the square’s center
Clue 2
Draw a circle. Then color the top half red.
Correct Response:
• A single circle
• A horizontal line (or clean separation) across the middle indicating top vs. bottom
• The top semicircle filled completely in red, bottom semicircle left blank or uncolored
Step-by-Step Check:
- Circle outline drawn
- Division between top and bottom
- Red coloring covers only the top half
Clue 3
Draw a triangle. Then color its left side blue.
Correct Response:
• A three-sided triangle (any orientation, but side identification should match student’s view)
• The side on the student’s left hand (when facing the drawing) colored completely blue
Step-by-Step Check:
- Triangle outline with three distinct sides
- Identify left side relative to student’s viewpoint
- Blue coloring applied only to that side
Clue 4
Draw a rectangle. Then draw a vertical line down the center and color the right section green.
Correct Response:
• Rectangle outline with opposite sides equal
• A straight vertical line splitting the rectangle into two equal parts
• The half on the right side of that line filled in green
Step-by-Step Check:
- Rectangle drawn
- Vertical center line correctly bisecting width
- Green coloring on right half only
Clue 5
Draw a star (five points). Then draw a small circle at each point.
Correct Response:
• A standard five-pointed star (one continuous outline)
• A small separate circle at the tip of each of the five points (total of five circles)
Step-by-Step Check:
- Star shape with five distinct points
- Five small circles, one centered on each star point
Clue 6
Draw two parallel horizontal lines. Then connect them on the left with a vertical line and color the shape yellow.
Correct Response:
• Two straight horizontal lines, parallel and evenly spaced
• A single vertical line on the left end connecting the two horizontals, forming a rectangle or “box” open on the right
• Entire enclosed shape filled in yellow
Step-by-Step Check:
- Two parallel horizontal strokes
- Vertical connector on left only
- Yellow fill inside
Clue 7
Draw a hexagon. Then draw and color one of its sides purple.
Correct Response:
• Six-sided shape (hexagon) with equal or nearly equal sides
• One entire side selected and fully colored purple
Step-by-Step Check:
- Six sides drawn
- One side clearly chosen
- Purple shading exactly on that side
Clue 8
Draw a heart shape. Then draw an arrow through it.
Correct Response:
• Classic heart outline (two rounded lobes and a point at bottom)
• Straight arrow passing through the heart, typically entering one side and exiting the other, with a pointed tip and feathered end
Step-by-Step Check:
- Heart outline drawn
- Arrow shaft and point drawn through the center of the heart
- Arrowhead and fletching details present
Clue 9
Draw a smiley face: circle, two eyes, and a mouth. Then color only the mouth orange.
Correct Response:
• Circle outline for the face
• Two eyes (dots or small circles) inside the face
• Curved smiling mouth
• Mouth area filled in orange; eyes and face outline uncolored
Step-by-Step Check:
- Face circle drawn
- Eyes and mouth sketched
- Orange shading applied only to the mouth region
Clue 10
Draw a plus sign (+). Then draw a circle around it.
Correct Response:
• A plus sign with one vertical and one horizontal line intersecting at center
• A larger circle drawn so the plus sign sits inside it, centered
Step-by-Step Check:
- Plus sign drawn with equal line lengths
- Circle outline centered around the plus sign
Use this key to confirm each student drawing includes both parts of the clue and follows the spatial and color directions accurately. Provide praise for correct execution and targeted feedback if any element is missing or misaligned.
