Mirror Mirror Lesson Plan

Students will reflect on personal strengths through guided prompts and create positive affirmations to boost body image and self-esteem.

Early adolescence often brings self-doubt and body-image concerns. This one-on-one session empowers the student to recognize their unique qualities and practice positive self-talk, fostering lasting confidence.

  • Welcome the student and explain the session’s purpose: to explore their strengths and build self-confidence.
  • Reassure confidentiality and create a supportive atmosphere.
  • Ask the student to share one thing they like about themselves today.

Step 2

Strengths Reflection

10 minutes

  • Hand out the Strengths Reflection Worksheet.
  • Guide the student through each prompt (e.g., “List three personal qualities you’re proud of”).
  • Ask follow-up questions to deepen reflection (e.g., “Can you share a time you used this strength?”).

Step 3

Mirror Affirmation Exercise

7 minutes

  • Position the mirror so the student can see themselves comfortably.
  • Explain how positive self-talk can reshape body image.
  • Ask the student to choose three affirmations from the worksheet or write new ones on sticky notes.
  • Have them look in the mirror and speak each affirmation aloud, pausing between each.
