Recognize and manage emotions

Step 1

Introduction to Mindfulness

5 mins

  • Begin by explaining what mindfulness is: paying attention to the present moment without judgment.
  • Discuss the benefits of mindfulness, such as reducing stress and improving focus.
  • Ask students if they have ever practiced mindfulness before and what their experiences were.

Step 2

Guided Mindfulness Exercise

15 mins

  • Have students sit comfortably on their yoga mats or chairs.
  • Lead a guided mindfulness exercise focusing on breathing and body awareness.
  • Encourage students to notice their breath and any sensations in their body.
  • Play calm background music if desired to enhance the experience.

Step 3

Reflection and Discussion

5 mins

  • Distribute the Mindfulness Reflection Worksheet.
  • Ask students to write down how they felt before and after the exercise.
  • Facilitate a discussion on how they can use mindfulness in their daily lives, such as before a test or when feeling upset.
