Mindful Snowflakes: Crafting Calm and Creativity

Promote creativity and mindfulness

In this lesson, students will engage in a calming craft activity by creating unique paper snowflakes while practicing mindfulness techniques. This exercise is designed to promote creativity, concentration, and a peaceful mind, allowing students to appreciate the beauty in individuality. By focusing on the process of crafting and being present in the moment, students will develop a sense of calm and enhance their creative expression.

White paper, Scissors, Colored pencils or markers, and Mindfulness prompts handout

Step 1

Introduction

3 minutes

  • Gather students in a circle and introduce the activity.
  • Explain that they will be making paper snowflakes while practicing mindfulness.
  • Discuss the importance of being present and focusing on the task at hand.

Step 2

Mindfulness Breathing Exercise

2 minutes

  • Guide students through a short breathing exercise to center their attention.
  • Encourage them to take deep breaths in and out, focusing on their breath.

Step 3

Crafting Snowflakes

10 minutes

  • Distribute white paper and scissors to each student.
  • Demonstrate how to fold and cut the paper to create a snowflake.
  • Encourage students to focus on the process and enjoy the creativity.
  • Remind them to be mindful of their actions and thoughts as they craft.

Step 4

Coloring and Personalization

3 minutes

  • Provide colored pencils or markers for students to decorate their snowflakes.
