Activity
Scenario Analysis Activity
Objective: Participants will apply hazard identification and risk mitigation strategies by analyzing everyday safety scenarios in small groups.
Materials Needed:
- Everyday Safety Scenarios Handout
- Scenario Analysis Worksheet
- Timer
- Pens and Notepads
Setup & Duration:
- Group Size: 3–4 participants per group
- Total Time: 25 minutes
Activity Steps:
-
Form Groups (2 minutes)
- Divide into small groups of 3–4 participants.
-
Distribute Materials (1 minute)
- Give each group one copy of the Everyday Safety Scenarios Handout and Scenario Analysis Worksheet.
-
Analyze Scenarios (20 minutes)
- Each group selects one or two scenarios from the handout.
- Using the worksheet, identify potential hazards, assess associated risks, and propose at least two mitigation strategies per scenario.
- Record your analysis clearly on the worksheet and prepare a brief summary of your findings.
-
Prepare to Share (2 minutes)
- Review your group’s analysis and choose a spokesperson to present your key points.
Debrief & Discussion (15 minutes—handled under the main lesson plan):
- Reconvene as a full group. Each team shares one scenario and their proposed mitigation strategies.
- Facilitate discussion: compare different approaches, highlight innovative solutions, and reinforce best practices.
Expected Outcomes:
- Enhanced ability to spot everyday hazards and think proactively about safety.
- Practical experience in group collaboration and risk mitigation planning.
Follow-Up:
- Encourage participants to apply these analysis techniques to real-life routines over the coming week and note any hazards or solutions they observe.
Discussion
Safety Practices Discussion
Discussion Guidelines
- Listen actively and respect each speaker
- Relate examples to personal or professional experiences
- Offer constructive feedback and build on others’ ideas
Discussion Questions
- Scenario Reflection
Which scenario from the Everyday Safety Scenarios Handout challenged your group the most? Why?
- How did your mitigation strategies address the primary hazards?
- Can you suggest an additional precaution you hadn’t considered?
- Personal Routine Analysis
Think about a daily activity (morning commute, meal preparation, home maintenance). Identify two hazards you encounter regularly.
- What proactive steps can you take to reduce these risks?
- How would you document and revisit your plan to ensure consistency?
- Professional Application
In your workplace or community role, how can you foster a culture of mindful safety?
- What communication techniques would help colleagues recognize hazards?
- How might you integrate brief safety checks into routine meetings or workflows?
Wrap-Up and Commitment
Each participant writes down one new safety practice they will adopt this week and one way they will remind themselves to follow it.
- How will you measure your success?
- What support or resources might you need?
Slide Deck
Mindful Safety Practices in Everyday Life
• Practical safety measures for daily routines
• Proactive planning & scenario analysis
• Personal & professional decision-making
Welcome everyone. Introduce yourself and briefly explain the flow of today’s 60-minute session. Emphasize interactive elements and encourage participation.
Session Objectives
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
• Identify common hazards in daily activities
• Apply proactive planning to reduce risks
• Analyze scenarios and propose mitigation strategies
• Commit to at least two new safety practices
Read aloud the objectives. Ask if any participants have specific safety goals for today’s session.
Key Safety Principles
- Situational Awareness
– Stay present and observe your environment - Hazard Identification
– Spot potential risks before they escalate - Proactive Planning
– Develop simple steps to avoid or mitigate hazards
Explain each principle with a real-life example. Invite one or two volunteers to share quick examples from their own routines.
Scenario Analysis Activity
- Form groups of 3–4
- Review one or two scenarios from Everyday Safety Scenarios Handout
- Use the Scenario Analysis Worksheet
• Identify hazards
• Assess risks
• Propose ≥2 mitigation strategies - Prepare a 2-minute summary
Time: 25 minutes total (20 min work + 5 min prep)
Divide participants into groups of 3–4. Distribute the handout and worksheet. Set a 20-minute timer and circulate to support each group.
Group Discussion Prompts
- Scenario Reflection
– Which hazard challenged you most?
– How effective were your mitigation strategies? - Personal Routine Analysis
– Name two hazards you face daily
– What proactive steps can you take? - Professional Application
– How can you promote mindful safety at work?
