Mindful Mornings & Reflective Afternoons Plan

Students will engage in reflective morning check-ins and thoughtful afternoon check-outs, focusing on personal boundaries, respectful communication, and self-contribution to class well-being over six sessions.

This lesson helps students build self-awareness, empathy, and respectful interactions, essential skills for personal growth and positive classroom dynamics.

Prep

Preparation for Mindful Check-Ins

20 minutes

  • Review the Mindful Mornings & Reflective Afternoons Plan thoroughly.
  • Print the questionnaires for the morning check-in and afternoon check-out sessions.
  • Organize questionnaires into two piles (morning and afternoon) for easy classroom distribution.
  • Ensure all necessary writing materials are available for each student.

Step 1

Morning Check-In Questionnaire

15 minutes

  • Distribute the morning check-in questionnaires to each student.
  • Guide students through questions focusing on their personal feelings, contributions to classmates, and self-care strategies.
  • Encourage students to reflect on how they can respect personal boundaries and offer kind words to peers.
  • Collect completed questionnaires for review.

Step 2

Afternoon Check-Out Questionnaire

15 minutes

  • At the end of the class, distribute the afternoon check-out questionnaires.
  • Prompt students to reflect on the day’s interactions, noting moments they contributed positively to the classroom environment.
  • Ask reflective questions that help students assess their respect for personal boundaries and mindful behavior.
  • Gather responses and provide supportive feedback individually if time allows.

Session Transition and Recap

  • Briefly discuss key insights from the morning and afternoon questionnaires.
  • Highlight exemplary contributions or reflections (while maintaining confidentiality).
  • Encourage students to set a personal mindfulness goal for the next session.
