Mindful Moments: Sensory Walk

Enhance mindfulness through sensory exploration

This lesson guides students on a sensory walk, encouraging them to use their senses to explore their environment. This mindfulness exercise helps students center themselves, improving focus and reducing anxiety. By engaging with their surroundings, students learn to be present in the moment, which can enhance their emotional well-being and concentration.

Comfortable walking shoes, Notebook and pencil, and Discussion questions

Step 1

Introduction to Mindfulness

5 minutes

  • Gather students in a circle.
  • Briefly explain mindfulness as paying attention to the present moment.
  • Discuss how using our senses can help us focus and feel calm.

Step 2

Guided Sensory Walk

15 minutes

  • Lead students on a walk around the school (indoors or outdoors).
  • Encourage them to notice what they see, hear, smell, and feel.
  • Prompt them to jot down or draw their observations in their notebooks.

Step 3

Reflection and Discussion

5 minutes

  • Return to the classroom and sit in a circle.
  • Ask students to share one observation from their walk.
  • Discuss how focusing on their senses made them feel.
