Teacher: “Wow, you did an amazing job making your coping plan chart! I’m so proud of your hard work. Now let’s look at our Plan Completion Criteria Rubric together to see how well your chart matches each part. Ready?”
Teacher: “Our first item says ‘All boxes are filled.’ Can you show me each row and tell me what you wrote or drew? Let’s start with row 1.”
(Let the student point to row 1 and explain.)
Teacher: “Excellent—row 1 is filled! Now let’s look at row 2 and row 3 the same way.”
(Praise each completed row.)
Teacher: “Next, the rubric asks ‘Can you explain each strategy?’ Show me your favorite calm strategy in the chart and tell me in your own words how it helps you.”
(Listen and offer support.)
Teacher: “That’s clear and makes perfect sense. Now, what about your new strategy—can you show how you’ll do it when you feel upset?”
Teacher: “Finally, our rubric says ‘Chart is colorful and neat.’ I see lots of bright colors! Which color did you use for your favorite strategy, and why?”
(Celebrate their color choices.)
Teacher: “Everything looks neat and colorful—great job!”
Teacher: “You met all three criteria—complete, clear, and colorful! You are ready to use these strategies when you feel upset. Which one will you try first? When do you think you might need it?”
(Encourage the student to share a plan.)
Teacher: “I’m so proud of you. Remember, you can look at this chart anytime you need to calm down. Keep practicing, and you’ll become even stronger at helping yourself feel better!”
