Materials

Calm, quiet space, Soft background music (optional), and Mindfulness Reflection Discussion

Step 1

Introduction to Mindfulness

5 mins

Gather the students in a calm and quiet space. Briefly explain what mindfulness is in simple terms: 'Mindfulness is paying attention to what is happening right now, without judging it. It helps us feel calmer and more focused.' Ask if anyone has tried being mindful before and what it felt like.

Step 2

Guided Mindfulness Activity

10 mins

Lead the students through a simple mindfulness exercise. You can use the following script: 'Let's start by sitting comfortably and closing our eyes. Take a deep breath in through your nose, and slowly breathe out through your mouth. Notice the air moving in and out. Now, let's pay attention to how our bodies feel. Notice your feet on the floor, the feel of your clothes, and any sounds you hear. If thoughts come, that's okay – just gently bring your attention back to your breathing.' Play soft background music if you have it.

Step 3

Reflection and Discussion

10 mins

Ask the students to open their eyes and take a moment to stretch. Discuss their experiences with the mindfulness activity. Use the questions from the 'Mindfulness Reflection Discussion' attachment to guide the conversation.

Step 4

Closure

5 mins

Recap the benefits of mindfulness: 'Mindfulness can help us feel calmer and more focused. You can practice it anytime you feel stressed or distracted.' Encourage students to practice mindfulness at home.
