Mindful Group Projects

Explore mindfulness through creativity

In this lesson, students will work in small groups to explore mindfulness through creative outlets such as art, music, or storytelling. This lesson is important as it encourages students to express their creativity while focusing on positive collaboration and mindful interaction, which are essential skills for personal and social development.

Materials

Art supplies (paper, markers, paints), Musical instruments or digital music tools, Storytelling prompts, Discussion questions, and Reflection worksheet

Step 1

Introduction to Mindfulness

5 minutes

  • Briefly explain the concept of mindfulness and its benefits.
  • Discuss how mindfulness can be expressed through creative activities like art, music, and storytelling.

Step 2

Group Formation and Project Selection

5 minutes

  • Divide students into small groups of 3-4.
  • Allow each group to choose whether they want to explore mindfulness through art, music, or storytelling.

Step 3

Creative Exploration

20 minutes

  • Provide materials and prompts for each group based on their chosen medium.
  • Encourage students to collaborate and express their ideas mindfully.
  • Circulate the room to offer guidance and support as needed.

Step 4

Group Presentations

5 minutes

  • Have each group present their creative project to the class.
  • Encourage students to share how their project represents mindfulness.

Step 5

Reflection and Discussion

5 minutes

  • Distribute reflection worksheets for students to complete individually.
  • Facilitate a class discussion using prepared questions to reflect on the experience and the role of mindfulness in their projects.
