Step 1
Warm-Up: Fact Starter
5 minutes
- Begin with the Warm-Up: Fact Starter projected on the board or distributed to students.
- Instruct students to complete the warm-up individually for 3 minutes.
- After 3 minutes, quickly review the answers as a class, encouraging students to self-correct and identify areas for improvement. (Refer to Warm-Up: Fact Starter Answer Key for answers.)
Step 2
Introduction & Slide Deck Presentation
5 minutes
- Introduce the lesson with an enthusiastic tone, explaining that today's goal is to sharpen their math fact skills.
- Present the first few slides of the Math Fact Frenzy Slide Deck, focusing on the importance of math facts and setting a positive, energetic tone for practice.
- Engage students with questions from the slides, fostering a brief discussion about different math operations.
Step 3
Guided Practice: Worksheet Walkthrough
10 minutes
- Distribute the Math Fact Practice Worksheet.
- Guide students through the first few problems on the worksheet, demonstrating strategies for quick recall or calculation.
- Allow students to work independently or in pairs on the remainder of the worksheet for a set amount of time (e.g., 7 minutes).
- Circulate the room, providing support and encouragement.
Step 4
Quick Check & Cool Down
5 minutes
- After the guided practice, use the Math Fact Practice Answer Key to quickly review selected problems or allow students to check their own work.
- Conclude the lesson with a brief discussion or a quick Cool Down: Fact Finish activity to gauge student confidence and summarize key takeaways.
- Emphasize the progress made and encourage continued practice at home.

Math Fact Frenzy: Boost Your Brain!
Are you ready to become a math fact master?
Today, we're going to sharpen our addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills!
Welcome students and generate excitement about improving math skills. Ask students what they think 'fact fluency' means.
Why Are Math Facts Important?
- Supercharge your brain! Faster recall means less thinking about basic steps.
- Make harder math easier! Fractions, decimals, and algebra all use basic facts.
- Build confidence! The more you know, the better you feel about math!
Explain why quick recall of math facts is important for harder math problems. Give a quick, simple example if helpful (e.g., 'If you know 3x4 quickly, 30x4 is easier!').
The Four Math-tastic Operations
- Addition (+): Combining numbers. (e.g., 5 + 3 = ?)
- Subtraction (-): Finding the difference. (e.g., 8 - 2 = ?)
- Multiplication (x): Repeated addition. (e.g., 4 x 6 = ?)
- Division (/): Sharing equally. (e.g., 10 / 5 = ?)
Briefly introduce each operation. Ask students for an example of each. Keep it quick and interactive.
Warm-Up: Fact Starter!
Time to get our brains buzzing!
- You have 3 minutes to complete the Warm-Up: Fact Starter.
- Do your best and try to answer as many as you can!
- Don't worry, this is just to get us warmed up!
Explain the Warm-Up activity. Emphasize doing their best and that it's a way to see what they know now.
Practice Time: Get Your Facts On!
Now it's time for some more practice with our Math Fact Practice Worksheet!
- Work quietly on your own or with a partner.
- Use strategies you know to find the answers.
- We'll check our work together soon!
Go over a few problems from the worksheet together. Model thinking through a fact or a quick strategy. Remind them to use strategies they know (e.g., counting on, using doubles, skip counting).
You're a Math Fact Star!
Great job today, everyone!
- Remember, practice makes perfect when it comes to math facts.
- Keep practicing regularly to become a true math fact master!
- Every bit of practice helps your brain grow stronger!
Summarize the importance of practice and encourage them to keep practicing at home. Reassure them that improvement comes with effort.

Answer Key
Warm-Up: Fact Starter Answer Key
Instructions: Check your answers. For any you got wrong, try to figure out the correct solution!
- 5 + 7 = 12
- Thought Process: Start at 5, count up 7: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.
- 12 - 4 = 8
- Thought Process: Start at 12, count back 4: 12, 11, 10, 9, 8. Or, think what plus 4 equals 12? 8 + 4 = 12.
- 6 x 3 = 18
- Thought Process: This means 6 groups of 3 (3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3) or 3 groups of 6 (6 + 6 + 6).
- 15 / 5 = 3
- Thought Process: How many times does 5 go into 15? Or, what number multiplied by 5 equals 15? 3 x 5 = 15.
- 9 + 8 = 17
- Thought Process: You can use the

Addition Adventure!
- 8 + 6 = 14
- Thought Process: Start with the larger number, 8, and count up 6: 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14. Or, think of making a ten: 8 + 2 = 10, and 6 - 2 = 4, so 10 + 4 = 14.
- 9 + 7 = 16
- Thought Process: Start with 9, count up 7: 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16. Or, use the
