Script
St. Patrick's Day SEL Script
Teacher:
"Hello, everyone! Today, we have a very special adventure called 'Lucky to Learn' because it's St. Patrick's Day, and we're going to explore kindness, gratitude, and friendship together."
Teacher:
"Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, in a beautiful green land, a little leprechaun named Liam set out on a journey. Liam wasn't just looking for a pot of gold, but for something even more valuable—he was searching for kind hearts and thankful friends."
Teacher:
"Liam met many friends along the way. He met a wise old tree who taught him that being kind to others can make their hearts bloom like spring flowers. He also met a singing brook, always joyful and grateful for even the smallest gifts of nature. And finally, he made new friends who showed him that sharing and caring can create magic, just like a rainbow after a storm."
Teacher (Engaging the students):
"Can anyone share a time when they helped a friend or felt very thankful for something?"
[Allow students to share their examples. Provide encouragement and ask follow-up questions such as:]
Teacher:
"That's a wonderful story! How did that make you feel? What made you decide to help that friend?"
Teacher (Connecting to SEL concepts):
"Just like Liam learned, being kind and grateful helps us build strong friendships and feel really happy inside. It's like magic that fills our hearts with light. Today, as we celebrate St. Patrick's Day, let's remember Liam's adventure. Let's be kind, share our gratitude, and help our friends because every little act of kindness makes our world a little bit brighter."
Teacher (Transitioning to the next activity):
"Now, we're going to use our Lucky Activity Cards to talk more about times we felt lucky because of someone's kindness or gratitude. Get ready to share your stories and listen to your friends too!"
Teacher:
"Remember, every kind word and every grateful thought is a part of our magical journey. Let's keep that magic alive today."
"Who is excited to share what kindness means to them?"

Game
Kindness & Gratitude Game Instructions
This interactive game is designed to have students work in pairs or small groups to act out real-life scenarios that demonstrate kindness and gratitude. Follow these steps to facilitate the game:
Setup
- Divide students into pairs or small groups (3-4 per group works best).
- Explain that each group will receive a scenario card (or use a scenario devised by the teacher) that describes a situation where someone can show kindness or gratitude.
- Emphasize that the goal is to practice demonstrating empathy and caring through role-play.
How to Play
-
Scenario Briefing:
- Give each group a scenario prompt. For example:
- "You see a classmate who is feeling sad because they lost their favorite toy. How might you help them feel better?"
- "Imagine you received help from a friend during a challenging task. Show how you can express gratitude."
- Alternatively, allow groups to choose or create a scenario related to kindness or gratitude.
- Give each group a scenario prompt. For example:
-
Planning Time:
- Allow 2-3 minutes for groups to discuss and plan their role-play. Encourage them to think about the feelings involved and how their actions make a positive impact on others.
-
Role-Play:
- Each group performs their scenario for the class. Remind students to use clear expressions and actions that help convey the emotions and messages of kindness and gratitude.
-
Group Discussion:
- After each performance, ask the class reflective questions such as:
- "What kind act did you notice in the role-play?"
- "How did the characters feel during the interaction?"
- "What did you learn about showing kindness or gratitude?"
- After each performance, ask the class reflective questions such as:
-
Positive Reinforcement:
- Provide encouraging feedback to each group. Highlight specific actions that clearly demonstrated empathy, understanding, and the positive effects of kind behavior.
Wrap-Up
- End the game by bringing everyone together for a final discussion. Ask questions like:
- "What was your favorite part of the game?"
- "How do you think acts of kindness and gratitude can change our classroom or home?"
- Remind students that the actions they practiced are important both during school and outside it.
Enjoy the game and remember that every act of kindness and each expression of gratitude helps our community grow stronger and happier!
