Life Skills Launchpad

Over three 30-minute sessions, this curriculum empowers 4th grade homeschool students to build healthy daily routines, practice structured decision-making, and develop emotional awareness through guided activities and personal reflections.

Developing these life skills fosters independence, critical thinking, and emotional regulation—key foundations for academic success and overall well-being in young learners.

Step 1

Day 1: Establishing Daily Routines

30 minutes

  • Warm-Up (5 min): Discuss current morning and evening routines
  • Activity (15 min): Complete sections 1–2 of the Morning Routine Worksheet
  • Sharing (5 min): Each student names one routine they want to improve
  • Reflection (5 min): Journal in the Personal Reflection Journal about today’s routines and set one goal for improvement

Step 2

Day 2: Decision-Making Skills

30 minutes

  • Warm-Up (5 min): Read a simple scenario and ask: “What would you do?”
  • Activity (15 min): Use the Decision-Making Scenario Cards to practice steps: identify options, weigh pros/cons, choose, and reflect
  • Discussion (5 min): Share one scenario and explain the decision process
  • Reflection (5 min): Journal about a recent choice and how applying these steps could improve the outcome

Step 3

Day 3: Emotional Awareness and Regulation

30 minutes

  • Warm-Up (5 min): Use the Emotion Wheel Poster to name how you feel today
  • Activity (15 min): Role-play three short situations, label the emotion, and practice expressing it calmly
  • Strategy Building (5 min): Introduce two calming techniques (deep breathing, counting)
  • Reflection (5 min): Journal in the Personal Reflection Journal about a time they felt a strong emotion and which strategy they’ll try next time

Decision-Making Scenario Cards

Use these cards to practice the four-step decision-making process: 1) Identify the choice, 2) List options, 3) Weigh pros and cons, 4) Make a decision and reflect.

Print and cut into individual cards. Shuffle and draw one per student.

Card 1:
You promised your friend you’d play soccer after school, but another friend invited you to a video game party at the same time.






Card 2:
You have two snack options: a healthy apple or a sweet cookie. You can only choose one.






Card 3:
Your pet’s birthday is today, but you also have math homework due tomorrow.






Card 4:
You found a new book you want to read, but your sibling wants to watch a movie together.






Card 5:
You see a toy that isn’t yours on the playground. No one is watching.






Card 6:
It’s raining outside, and you can’t go out to play. You can pick a board game or draw a picture indoors.
