Leaf Printing Extravaganza

Teach about leaf shapes and patterns

In this 45-minute lesson, students will learn about different leaf shapes and patterns by creating beautiful prints using real leaves and paint. This activity will help students develop observational skills and foster creativity while introducing them to the diversity of plant life.

Large leaves of various shapes and sizes, White construction paper, Washable paint in multiple colors, Paintbrushes, Paper plates, Paper towels, Aprons or old shirts (to protect clothing), Discussion: Reflecting on Leaf Printing, and Worksheet: Leaf Observation and Impressions

Step 1

Introduction to Leaves

  • Briefly explain that leaves come in various shapes, sizes, and patterns.
  • Show real leaves and emphasize their unique characteristics.
  • Explain that students will be using leaves to create prints on paper, observing the different patterns they make.

Preparation

  • Distribute the materials to each student (leaves, paper, paint, brushes).
  • Ensure all students are wearing aprons or old shirts to protect their clothing.
