Leaf Collage: Reflecting on Personal Growth

Reflect on personal growth

In this lesson, students will create a collage using leaves to symbolize their personal growth throughout the school year. This activity encourages self-reflection and helps students recognize their achievements and milestones. By associating different leaf shapes and colors with personal experiences, students will develop a deeper understanding of their growth and accomplishments.

Materials

Assorted leaves, Construction paper, Glue sticks, Crayons or markers, Scissors, and Discussion questions

Step 1

Introduction

5 minutes

  • Begin by discussing the concept of personal growth with the students.
  • Explain how different shapes and colors of leaves can symbolize different experiences and achievements.
  • Encourage students to think about their own growth over the school year.

Step 2

Collage Creation

15 minutes

  • Distribute materials: leaves, construction paper, glue sticks, crayons/markers, and scissors.
  • Instruct students to select leaves that represent different aspects of their personal growth.
  • Guide them to arrange and glue the leaves onto the construction paper to create a collage.
  • Encourage creativity by allowing them to draw or write on the collage to further express their thoughts.

Step 3

Reflection and Discussion

10 minutes

  • Gather students in a circle to share their collages.
  • Use the discussion questions to facilitate a conversation about their collages and the growth they represent.
  • Encourage students to listen to each other and share positive feedback.
