Game

Leadership Communication Game

This interactive game is designed to help students practice leadership and communication skills in a fun, structured, and inclusive way. It includes clear instructions and adaptations for students with ADHD and ADD to ensure that every student can participate effectively.

Game Overview

  • Objective: Enhance leadership and literacy skills by practicing clear verbal instructions, active listening, and team collaboration.
  • Time Required: 25 minutes
  • Materials Needed:
    • Preparation materials as outlined in the Leadership and Literacy Lesson Plan
    • Clear instructions for each mini-task.

Game Instructions

1. Divide into Small Groups

  • Split the class into small groups of 4-5 students. Arrange seating in a circle or around tables for clear visibility.
  • Each group will work together to complete a series of mini-tasks.

2. Roles and Responsibilities

  • In each group, one student is chosen as the leader for the first task. The role then rotates with each new mini-task.
  • The leader’s job is to give clear, step-by-step verbal instructions to complete the task.
  • Other group members practice active listening and follow the instructions.

3. Conducting the Mini-Tasks

  • The mini-task could be a simple activity such as organizing objects in order, drawing a shape following verbal directions, or solving a puzzle collaboratively.
  • Keep tasks short and engaging to help maintain focus, especially for students with ADHD and ADD.
  • Allow 3-5 minutes per mini-task before rotating roles.

4. Adaptations for ADHD & ADD

  • Use visual prompts and cue cards along with verbal instructions to enhance clarity.
  • Provide extra time and gentle reminders if students lose focus during tasks.
  • Encourage frequent role rotation to allow students more active involvement.

5. Feedback and Reflection During the Game

  • After each mini-task, the group briefly discusses what communication strategies worked well.
  • The teacher circulates among the groups offering positive feedback and additional guidance to keep all students engaged.

Post-Game Reflection

  • After completing all mini-tasks, bring the class back together for a group discussion.
  • Ask questions such as:
    • What was one clear instruction that helped your team succeed?
    • How did effective communication impact your group’s performance?
    • What could be improved for even better communication in the next round?

Supporting Materials and Next Steps

  • Review the Leadership and Literacy Lesson Plan for a detailed breakdown of the lesson’s objectives and strategies.
  • Encourage students to continue practicing these communication skills in everyday classroom interactions and leadership roles.

This game is an integral part of the lesson, reinforcing how leadership and literacy go hand-in-hand through constant practice and reflection. Enjoy leading with words!
