Slide Deck

Kindness Counts

• 20-minute lesson for 3rd Graders
• Goals:
– Give genuine compliments
– Collaborate in a kindness scavenger hunt
– Reflect on acts of kindness
• Components:

  1. Compliment Carousel (Warm-Up)
  2. Kindness Bingo (Activity)
  3. Reflection & Journaling

Welcome everyone! Today we’re kicking off our lesson called “Kindness Counts.” Over the next 20 minutes, we’ll practice giving genuine compliments, play a fun Kindness Bingo game, and reflect on how kindness makes us feel.

Notice the warm, sunny gradient background – these colors remind us of warmth, positivity, and community.

Warm-Up: Compliment Carousel

• Form two concentric circles facing each other
• Each student takes one Compliment Prompt Card
• Read your prompt and offer a genuine compliment
• After 1 minute, inner circle rotates to a new partner
• Continue until time is called

Explain that a compliment is a positive statement about someone else. Model one compliment first: “I like how Maria always listens so respectfully.”

Arrange students in two circles: an inner and outer circle. Emphasize clear, kind speech.

After each minute, have the inner circle step to the right. Encourage eye contact and genuine comments.

Activity: Kindness Bingo

• Hand out one Kindness Bingo Card per student
• Find classmates who match the kindness prompts
• Write each classmate’s name in the box
• Aim for five in a row (horizontal, vertical, diagonal)
• Discuss real-life examples as you play

Distribute Kindness Bingo Cards. Explain that each box describes an act of kindness (e.g., “Helped someone with a task,” “Shared a smile”).

Students circulate, find classmates who did each act, and write their names in the boxes. First to five in a row calls “Bingo!”

Circulate to prompt conversation: “Tell me a story about that act.”

Reflect & Journal

Respond to these prompts:
• How did giving or receiving kindness feel?
• What act of kindness will you do today?

Write or draw your responses in your journal.

Ask students to settle at their desks with journals or prompt sheets.

Read each prompt aloud. Give students time to write or draw quietly.

Invite a few volunteers to share. Reinforce that there are no right or wrong answers – we’re sharing feelings and ideas.

Share & Next Steps

• Volunteers share one reflection or action plan
• Challenge: Perform one kind act today
• Reminder: Kindness builds our positive community

Bring the class back together. Ask 2–3 students to share one insight or action plan they wrote.

Emphasize that kindness doesn’t end here – challenge students to perform one kind act before the next lesson.

Thank students for their participation and positive energy!
