A Colorful Lesson

Miguel loved to draw pictures of his classmates. He thought his cartoons were funny, so he drew a picture of Rosa with a big, floppy hat and a silly frown. When he showed it to his friends, they giggled.

Rosa saw the drawing and felt her heart sink. She loved her hat, but Miguel’s picture made it look strange. Rosa’s smile fell, and she quietly walked away.

At recess, Miguel noticed Rosa sitting alone on the bench. He remembered how it felt when someone made fun of his favorite drawing. His steps were slow as he walked over and sat down next to her.

“I’m sorry,” he said softly. “I didn’t mean to make you sad.” He showed Rosa a new drawing—a bright, colorful picture of her smiling under her favorite flag.

Rosa’s eyes lit up. “Thank you,” she said. “This is so kind.” Miguel learned that drawings can help people feel happy or hurt. He decided to use his art to spread kindness instead of teasing.
