• Can you share a time you were kind?

Gather students in a circle. Ask the question and encourage several volunteers to share their ideas.

We’re going to read a story about how small acts of kindness can make big smiles!

Reading

Kindness Storybook

Once upon a time in a bright, sunny forest lived a little bunny named Bella. Every morning, Bella hopped through the wildflowers and greeted her friends with a happy “Hello!”

One day, Bella met Sammy the squirrel by the big oak tree. Sammy looked sad. His acorns had fallen and rolled all over the ground!

Bella paused her hop. She said, “Let me help you, Sammy.” Together, they gathered every single acorn. Sammy’s eyes shone with gratitude as he stacked them neatly in his tree hollow.

After the acorn rescue, Bella realized she had lost her favorite carrot snack. Sammy saw her frown and said, “Here, Bella—have one of my crunchy nuts!” Bella smiled and munched gratefully. She learned that sharing felt as good as eating her favorite carrot.

Later that afternoon, Bella and Sammy spotted Penny the porcupine struggling to carry a heavy basket of berries. Without thinking twice, Sammy lifted one side and Bella lifted the other. Step by step, they walked Penny back to her cozy den.

Penny beamed. “Thank you for being so kind,” she said. Bella and Sammy felt warm and happy inside. Kindness had brought them closer as friends.

As the sun dipped low, the three friends sat together beneath the oak tree. They shared stories and laughter, and each realized that small acts—like helping, sharing, and working together—could fill hearts with joy.

Remember: Every time you are kind, you shine a little light into someone’s day. Kindness makes the forest—and your classroom—sparkle!
