Preparing Our Minds for Chapter 9

Welcome class! Today, before we dive into the next chapter of Lord of the Flies, we're going to take a moment to reflect on some big ideas. This will help us connect with the story on a deeper level.

Journal Prompt: The Weight of Choice

Imagine you are stranded on an uninhabited island with a group of your peers. There are no adults, no rules, and no rescue in sight.

What kind of leader would you want to emerge? What qualities would be most important in this person, and why?

Conversely, what kind of person or behaviors would you find most challenging or dangerous in such a situation? How might a group of people, under extreme stress and isolation, begin to change?

Here is your journal prompt for today. You will have 10 minutes to write. Remember, there are no right or wrong answers. Just explore your thoughts.
