Lesson Preparation

20 minutes

  • Review all generated materials, including the Warm Up: "How Are We Feeling?", Discussion Guide: "Holden's Headspace", and Cool Down: "My Takeaway Ticket".
  • Identify 3-4 key passages from The Catcher in the Rye that vividly illustrate Holden's emotional state, isolation, critical observations of others, or resistance to growing up. (e.g., his thoughts on phonies, his conversation with Phoebe, his interactions at the hotel).
  • Ensure enough copies of the novel are available for all students or that students have their own copies.

Step 1

Warm-up: How Are We Feeling? (10 minutes)

10 minutes

  1. Distribute the Warm Up: "How Are We Feeling?" to each student.
  2. Instruct students to complete the warm-up individually, reflecting on the questions.
