Lesson Plan

Progress Patrol Lesson Plan

Students will become “data detectives” by using Observation Snapshots, Behavior Bingo Charts, and Exit Evidence Tickets to track their academic and behavioral progress in real time.

Empowering students to self-monitor builds self-awareness, responsibility, and motivation. Consistent data from these tools helps teachers tailor support and instruction for every learner.

Data Detectives on the Case!

Welcome to our class! Today we will learn how to track our learning and behavior using simple tools. By collecting data, we become better learners!

Welcome class! Today we begin our journey as Data Detectives. We’ll learn how to collect information about our learning and behavior so we can see what we do well and where we can grow.

What is Data?

Data is information we collect about what we do. It helps us see our successes and areas to improve.

Explain that “data” is just information. Use a simple example like tracking how many books we read.

Why Track Our Progress?

  • Helps us see what we did well
  • Shows us where to improve
  • Sets goals for next time

Walk through each bullet with examples from their daily routines.

Tool #1: Observation Snapshot

We use Observation Snapshot Worksheet to record one success and one challenge after our activities. This helps us notice our own learning patterns.

Show the Observation Snapshot Worksheet. Model filling out one success and one challenge.

Tool #2: Behavior Bingo

We use Behavior Bingo Chart to mark behaviors like:
• Raised hand to ask a question
• Stayed on task
• Helped a peer
Each time you show one, mark your square!

Display a sample Behavior Bingo Chart. Invite a volunteer to mark a square.

Tool #3: Exit Evidence Ticket

We use Exit Evidence Ticket to reflect at the end of class:

  1. What did I do well today?
  2. What can I improve?
  3. One goal for next time?

Pass around an example Exit Evidence Ticket and read the questions aloud.

Ready to Investigate?

Questions? Let’s get our tools and start collecting data!

Invite any final questions. Transition into the warm-up Observation Snapshot activity.
