- Distribute the Growth Mindset Warm-Up Sheet
- Prompt students to write or sketch a recent challenge they faced and how they responded
- Ask volunteers to share one insight about their feelings during that challenge

- Define “fixed mindset” vs “growth mindset” on the board
- Ask: “What beliefs help someone keep trying when tasks get hard?”
- Record student responses and highlight language that reflects learning vs fixed thinking

- In pairs, sort statements into “Fixed” or “Growth” columns
- Circulate and ask pairs to explain why they placed key statements

Fixed vs Growth Mindset Handout
Instructions: Read each statement below. In pairs, decide whether it reflects a fixed mindset (believing abilities are static) or a growth mindset (believing abilities can improve with effort). Then write the statement number in the appropriate column of the table.
Statements:
- I’m just not good at this, and I never will be.
- With practice, I can get better at any skill.
- If I make a mistake, it means I’m a failure.
- I learn more when someone points out where I can improve.

- Use “I” statements: share your own thoughts, not generalizations.
- Build on each other’s ideas: agree, add examples, or offer a different perspective.
