Teacher: "What does it mean to be a good friend? When you think of a good friend, what comes to your mind?"

Teacher: "Those are wonderful ideas! I remember a time when I was feeling a bit sad because I couldn't figure out a puzzle. My friend came over, sat with me, and helped me look for the right pieces. We worked together, and soon, the puzzle was finished! I felt so happy and thankful to have such a helpful friend. Has anyone ever had a friend help them, or have you helped a friend?"

Exploring Friendship Qualities (15 minutes)

Teacher: "Being a good friend is all about showing kindness and support. Let's explore some important qualities of a 'Helping Hands Hero'. [Display Helping Hands Heroes Slide Deck slide 2]

Teacher: "First, a good friend is kind. What does it mean to be kind? Can you give me an example of how you can show kindness to a friend?"

[Display Helping Hands Heroes Slide Deck slide 3]

Teacher: "Next, a good friend listens. Why is it important to listen when your friend is talking? What does it look like when someone is really listening to you?"

Teacher: "Exactly! When you listen, you learn how your friend is feeling and what they need. You look at them, and you think about what they are saying."

[Display Helping Hands Heroes Slide Deck slide 4]

Teacher: "And finally, a good friend helps. When have you helped a friend, or when has a friend helped you? How did it make you or them feel?"

Teacher: "Helping can be so many things, like picking up something that fell, sharing a snack, or cheering someone up when they're sad. These are all things that a Helping Hands Hero does!"

Friendship Scenarios Role-Play (15 minutes)

Teacher: "Now it's your turn to be a 'Helping Hands Hero'! We are going to practice how to be a good friend in different situations. [Display Helping Hands Heroes Slide Deck slide 5]
