Comfort in Asking for Help

In this lesson, a student will learn to identify situations where they may need help and feel comfortable asking for it through a fun game-based activity. This lesson is important because it encourages help-seeking behavior which is crucial for personal and academic growth.

Step 1

Introduction

5 minutes

  • Start by discussing the importance of asking for help.
  • Ask the student if there were times when he felt he needed help but didn’t ask for it.
  • Explain that today’s lesson is about becoming a ‘Help Hero’ - someone who knows when to ask for help and feels comfortable doing so.

Step 2

Help Heroes Game

15 minutes

  • Introduce the 'Help Heroes' game using printable help cards.
  • Each card will have a scenario where someone might need help and/or an example of how to ask for help.
  • Go through each scenario together and discuss whether it is a situation that would require help.
  • Practice role-playing asking for help in these scenarios to build comfort and confidence.

Step 3

Exit Ticket

5 minutes

  • Hand out the Exit Ticket.
  • Ask the student to reflect on today's lesson by answering the questions.
  • Collect the exit ticket.

Step 4

Closure

5 minutes

  • Summarize the key points of the lesson.
  • Reiterate the importance of asking for help.
  • Encourage the student to try asking for help whenever they feel they need it and remind him that it’s okay to seek assistance.
