Heartfelt Stories Circle

Enhance verbal expression and community

In this lesson, students will gather in a circle to share short personal stories or compliments about a classmate's positive quality. This activity is designed to enhance verbal expression and build a strong sense of community through active listening and appreciation. By participating, students will develop empathy, improve their communication skills, and foster a supportive classroom environment.

Step 1

Introduction

5 minutes

  • Gather students in a circle seating arrangement.
  • Explain the purpose of the activity: to share stories or compliments about classmates to build a supportive community.
  • Introduce the talking stick or object, explaining that only the person holding it may speak.

Step 2

Sharing Stories or Compliments

15 minutes

  • Pass the talking stick around the circle.
  • Encourage each student to share a short personal story or a compliment about a classmate's positive quality.
  • Remind students to listen actively and respectfully while others are speaking.

Step 3

Reflection and Discussion

5 minutes

  • After everyone has had a chance to share, facilitate a brief discussion.
  • Ask students how it felt to give and receive compliments or share stories.
  • Discuss the importance of appreciating each other's unique qualities.

Step 4

Closure

5 minutes

  • Thank students for their participation and sharing.
  • Encourage them to continue appreciating each other outside of the circle.
  • Collect the talking stick and any materials used.
